Unit Information:
o Beds: 14

o Minimum Years of Experience required? 2 years' ICU experience
o Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o General/Medical: sepsis, pneumonia, COVID, COPD, respiratory failure, kidney failure, liver failure, GI bleeds, DKA
o Cardiac: CHF, STEMI/NSTEMI, post-cath (radial and femoral approach)
o Trauma: GSW, stabbings, falls
o Surgical: GYN, GI (SBO), GU
o Neuro: SDH, TBI, CVA, TIA, syncope
o No cardiovascular surgeries
Patient Ratios:
o 1:1-3. If greater than 2 patients:
Team Nursing with experienced MedSurg RN
MS patient, but MD wants patients in ICU
Long term vented patients ICU RN manages vent, MS RN will manage patient
Required License, National Certification, Certs:
o BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
o TNCC preferred
Skills required:
o Vent/Trach management, tube/drain management, chest tubes, invasive line management (art line, CVP), cardiac rhythm interpretation (read and measure strips), surgical recovery, medication titration (sedation, pressors, cardiac, pain, paralytics, etc.)
o EPIC experience required
o Preferred: Abdominal pressure monitoring, EVDs, CVVH, IABP.
Support within the Department:
o Charge RN typically takes patient assignment
o 1-2 CNA per shift
o Bedside/Centralized tele monitoring
o HUC on day shift
o "Break Buddy
o RT 24/7
o Hospitalists 24/7
o Intensivist 24/7
o OT/PT/ST during the day
Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: EPIC - required
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Pyxis
o Monitors:
o Unit specific equipment:
Floating: If yes, where?
o Could float anywhere in the hospital within scope of practice and below. If floating to MedSurg/Tele units or ED Boarding with MS patients, will take 1:4 ratio.
o Travelers float first
Orientation (facility and unit) :
o 2 Day Orientation:
Day 1: Meet with ClinED (access, login, badge). Remainder of the day training on the unit
Day 2: 12h on the unit training with preceptor
Scheduling:
o Weekend rotation: Every other
o On call? None
o Holiday Expectations: 1 holiday per contract
o Approval of RTO: ok to approve up to 7 days
o Shift times: 0700-1900, 1900-0700
o Schedule cycle: Schedule made in 6-week increments
