Unit Information:

  • Beds: 14
  • Required Experience: 2 years ICU
  • First-time traveler accepted: Yes

Patient Types / Common Diagnoses:

  • General/Medical: Sepsis, Pneumonia, COVID, COPD, Respiratory Failure, Kidney Failure, Liver Failure, GI Bleeds, DKA
  • Cardiac: CHF, STEMI/NSTEMI, Post-cath (radial & femoral)
  • Trauma: GSW, Stabbings, Falls
  • Surgical: GYN, GI (SBO), GU
  • Neuro: SDH, TBI, CVA, TIA, Syncope
  • Note: No cardiovascular surgeries

Patient Ratios:

  • 1:1–3
  • If >2 patients:
    • Team nursing with experienced MedSurg RN
    • ICU placement for MS patients per MD
    • Long-term vented patients: ICU RN manages vent, MS RN manages patient

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Required)
  • TNCC (Preferred)

Skills Required:

  • Vent/Trach management
  • Tube/drain & chest tube management
  • Invasive lines (Art line, CVP)
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Surgical recovery
  • Medication titration (sedation, pressors, cardiac, pain, paralytics)
  • EMR: EPIC (Required)
  • Preferred: Abdominal pressure monitoring, EVDs, CVVH, IABP

Department Support:

  • Charge RN (takes assignment)
  • 1–2 CNAs per shift
  • Tele monitoring (bedside/centralized)
  • HUC (day shift)
  • Break Buddy system
  • 24/7 RT, Hospitalists, Intensivist
  • OT/PT/ST (day shift)

Technology / Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

Floating:

  • Can float hospital-wide within scope
  • MedSurg/Tele or ED boarding → ratio 1:4
  • Travelers float first

Orientation:

  • 2 Days:
    • Day 1: ClinED onboarding + unit training
    • Day 2: 12-hour unit shift with preceptor

Scheduling:

  • Shift: 12-hour (0700–1900 / 1900–0700)
  • Weekend: Every other
  • On-call: None
  • Holiday: 1 per contract
  • RTO: Up to 7 days allowed
  • Schedule cycle: 6 weeks

  • Scrubs: Any solid professional color (no logos/designs)
