Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse (RN) Infection Preventionist is responsible for the prevention, investigation, monitoring and reporting of the spread of diseases in the long term care facility. Conducts, monitors and evaluates the Infection Prevention surveillance program to reduce the risk of transmission of infectious diseases to residents, visitors, volunteers, physicians and employees. Works closely with facility leadership and utilizes resources to implement Infection Prevention policies, procedures and programs. Provides Infection Prevention education, conducts epidemiological investigations and recommends improvements. In conjunction with the Infection Control Committee and in consultation with facility leadership, may institute any appropriate control measures, isolation procedures or studies when there is an immediate infection risk to residents or personnel.
Qualifications:
Education
• Associate's Degree in Nursing required
• Certificate of Infection Prevention Training in Long Term Care Infection Control by a recognized association such as the Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC) or the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) required
Experience
• 3 years of relevant experience in a Long Term Care setting required
• Working knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious disease and aseptic technique to include standard and transmission based precautions required
Licenses and Certifications
• RN - Current and valid Registered Nurse license to work within the state of California required
• BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required

These centers have been developed in accordance with standards established for safety net providers by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA), the Public Health Service (PHS), and the Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC).
As such, services are offered to the neediest in each community - the un-insured and under-insured, the working poor, those with limited ability to pay, the homeless, and the indigent. Services are provided at discounted (sliding fee scale) rates for those who qualify based on gross annual income and family size.
