Position Title: Imaging/Radiology RN Job Code: RN-6158

Department: Imaging Services Safety Sensitive: YES

Reports to: Nurse Manager Exempt Status: NO

Position Purpose:

Provides nursing support to the Radiology interventional services and the radiologists.

Key Responsibilities [List of material responsibilities and essentials duties which must be completed in achieving the objectives of the position]

Works under the direction of the radiologist and the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act to provide nursing care to patients in compliance with nursing standards and regulations. Utilizes the nursing process to make continuing assessments of the patient's total health needs; implements nursing interventions based on assessment data; develops and implements the nursing plan of care, and evaluates the patient's response. Strives to provide excellent patient care with compassion, tact, cheerfulness, accuracy, patience, flexibility in scheduling, calmness in emergency, and ability to work well with team members, receiving and applying feedback from peers and superiors. Assists with orientation of new staff to the unit as requested.

Quality of Care and Nursing Process

a. The nurse provides evidence-based care so as to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions.

b. The nurse practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.

c. The nurse complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions.

Assessment: The nurse collects patient health data.

a. Nursing assessments are completed according to hospital and unit specific policies, procedures, and standards of nursing care.

b. Pertinent data are collected from the patient, significant others, and health care providers.

c. A comprehensive patient history and physical is completed in a timely manner and includes: biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care abilities, educational, age specific, cultural, and discharge planning needs.

Diagnosis / Care Needs: The nurse analyzes the assessment data to identify care needs.

a. Nursing diagnoses / care needs are derived from the assessment data.

b. Involving the patient and significant other as appropriate, the nurse formulates a plan to provide appropriate care based on identified patient needs.

Implementation: The patient's nursing care is based on identified nursing diagnoses / care needs and patient care standards, and is consistent with the therapies of other disciplines.

a. Nursing care is based on identified nursing diagnoses / care needs.

c. Nursing care is prioritized based on assessment of patient's immediate condition or needs.

d. The patient and / or significant other(s) is involved in the patient's care as appropriate.

e. The nurse collaborates with the patient, family, physician and other clinical disciplines in making decisions regarding each patient's need for nursing care.

f. The nurse implements patient education and involves the patient, family and / or significant other(s) as appropriate to the age of the patient.

Evaluation: The nurse evaluates the patient's progress towards attainment of desired outcomes.

a. Evaluation of the patient's response to nursing care is evident in the ongoing assessment data.

b. Nursing diagnoses / care needs are revised based on reassessment data.

Documentation: Documents patient care management in clear, concise manner.

a. Completes nursing documentation record and captures charges as appropriate.

b. Initiates the Nursing Care Plan with identified patient problems considering age specific variations, nursing diagnosis, expected outcomes and nursing interventions.

c. Records patient's response to treatment and nursing intervention on the patient care record.

d. Documents medications, treatments, and nursing intervention on appropriate chart forms.

e. Provides thorough discharge instructions.

Patient Satisfaction: Participates in activities that improve patient experience and satisfaction.

a. Regularly applies AIDET as well as other evidence-based behaviors when taking care of patients. Shows empathy care to patients and family members present.

b. Unit goal for Patient Satisfaction met.

c. Demonstrates regular attendance and participation at scheduled department and team meetings or notification. Absences must be communicated as soon as practically possible.

d. Ensure all licensure, competencies, training, and education are completed in a timely manner to ensure compliance with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental statutes, policies, and procedures.

e. Participate in and encourage continuous process improvement.

Qualifications [Statements regarding minimum educational and experience qualifications, required proficiencies with specialized knowledge, computer proficiencies, military service, required certifications, etc.]

  • Registered Nurses must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school's Diploma program
  • Current, valid Arizona RN license or compact state RN license
  • Current BLS (CPR) certification
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as an RN or equivalent patient care experience
  • ACLS upon hire

Interventional Radiology RN

Able to complete Orientation Checklist consisting of:

  • Charge RN role
  • IR Clinic/Consult and follow up
  • Primary Call RN
  • Code leader role

Radiology RN

Able to complete Orientation Checklist excluding the items listed for IR RN

Preferences [Preferred attributes for the position which are not absolutely required in the minimum qualifications (i.e., multi-lingual, master's degree)]

  • BSN is preferred.
  • Experience working in respective clinical area is desired.
  • Continuing education for Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred every two years.
  • CCU, ICU, or ED experience preferred.
  • Basic EKG competency upon hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.

  2. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.

  3. Able to manage technical business equipment i.e. phone, fax, computer etc.

  4. Able to assist with the movement/manipulation of an adult patient weighing up to 300 lbs.

  5. Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.

  6. Able to sit for 3-5 hours per day; able to stand for 3-5 hours per day; able to walk for 3-5 hours day.

  7. Able to lift equipment up to 50 lbs. and push equipment up to 150 lbs.

  8. Able to analyze and apply theory to practice skills.

  9. Concentration, visual and auditory acuity for watching monitors and following instructions during exams.
