Position Summary:

The RN, KDU Belcourt provides specialized nursing care to patients receiving dialysis treatment within the Kidney Dialysis Unit. This role performs detailed patient assessments, closely monitors hemodynamic status, and delivers individualized care before, during, and after dialysis treatments. Working collaboratively with nephrologists, dialysis technicians, and interdisciplinary team members, the RN helps ensure treatments are delivered safely, equipment functions properly, and patient needs are addressed promptly. As part of a supportive, team-oriented dialysis environment, this position promotes safe, effective treatment sessions through vigilant monitoring, patient education, and strict adherence to dialysis protocols, contributing to improved patient well-being and quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-treatment nursing assessments, review patient histories, and evaluate readiness for dialysis therapy.
  • Initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments in accordance with established clinical guidelines and patient-specific care plans.
  • Assess and monitor patient responses throughout treatment, intervening promptly in the event of adverse reactions or hemodynamic instability.
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding dialysis processes, self-care strategies, fluid and dietary considerations, and equipment safety.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and treatment outcomes in the electronic health record.
  • Collaborate with nephrology providers, technicians, and support staff to ensure proper equipment setup, infection-prevention practices, and adherence to regulatory standards.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Current or temporary RN license in North Dakota or compact RN licensure.
  • BLS certification required within orientation period.
  • Specialty certification in area of practice is desirable.

Educational Requirements:

  • RN program as evidenced by licensure.
  • Official diploma or transcript from the school/university from where Degree was received.

Experience Requirements:

Hospital experience is preferred, but not required. Special Skills or Training Requirements As required by specific units. Physical Requirements: The RN, KDU Belcourt frequently stands, walks, and moves between treatment stations while overseeing multiple patients. The role requires bending, reaching, and assisting with patient positioning, as well as handling dialysis machines, tubing, and supplies that may involve lifting moderate loads. Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are essential for observing patient status, managing equipment, accessing vascular sites, and responding quickly to changes during treatment.

Environmental Requirements:

This position works in a dialysis clinical environment with routine exposure to bloodborne pathogens, cleaning agents, and equipment alarms. The RN may encounter fluctuating patient acuity and must adhere strictly to safety protocols, infection-control standards, and PPE requirements. The role involves close interaction with patients who may have chronic health conditions, requiring calm communication, focus, and the ability to manage multiple treatment sessions concurrently.
