Shift 12hr Night Shift - 36 Shift Information 1900-0700
On Call, Call Back Requirements None
Weekend Rotation Every other weekend Holiday Requirements
Travelers will work 75% of holidays Floating Requirements Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH (peds only) -- could float to any of the facilities within region if the need arises

Unit: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry
Beds: 27
Average Daily Census: 20 patients

Patient Population

  • Stroke
  • COPD
  • Chest Pain
  • Altered Mental Status
  • GI Bleed

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

  • Typical: 1:5–6 (acuity dependent)
  • Surge staffing: Up to 1:7–8

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 18 months recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience
  • First-time travelers are not preferred but may be considered

Required Certifications

  • Active RN License
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Required Skills

Candidates should be proficient in:

Clinical Skills

  • Stroke care and NIH assessments
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Chest tube management
  • Peripheral IV insertion
  • Trach care
  • NGT placement
  • Foley catheter insertion and management
  • PCA pump management

Tube and Drain Management

  • Dobhoff tubes
  • PEG tubes
  • Hemovac drains
  • JP drains
  • Flexi-Seal systems

Medication & Infusion Management

  • Cardiac drips
  • Heparin infusions
  • Blood product administration
  • IV fluid management

Unit Support

  • Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs)
  • Unit Secretary/HUC (Day Shift Only)
  • Charge Nurse (may carry patient assignment)
  • 24/7 Phlebotomy
  • 24/7 Respiratory Therapy
  • 24/7 Hospitalist Coverage
  • Telemetry Monitoring Technicians

No dedicated IV/Vascular Access Team available.

  • EMR: Epic

  • Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
  • Cardiac Monitors: Philips

Schedule

  • Shift: 12-Hour Nights
  • Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Weekly Hours: 36
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: 75% of holidays
  • On-Call: None

Floating Requirements

Travelers must be willing to float within Region 1 based on staffing needs and within their scope of practice.

    • Levine Children's Hospital (Pediatrics only)

If floated mid-shift, travel time between facilities is paid and remains on the clock.
