o Level 1 Trauma Designation
o Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center
o Chest Pain Center
o Stroke Center
Unit Information:
o Beds: 26
o Minimum Years of Experience required? 2 years
o Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o Unit A General Medicine - DM, GI, Resp, Renal, Wounds, Dressing Changes, Observation Side Goal LOS less than 24 hrs
Testing prioritized
o Unit B locked BH diagnoses - ALL; Dementia/memory care/developmental delays/SI
Patient Ratios:
o RN: Unit A: 1:6; Unit B: 1:5
o LPN (if applicable): 4-5:1
o CNA: 7:1
Required Licensure & Certifications:
o RN:
Unit A: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team Requirement)
Unit B: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS and CPI can be obtained on site
Skills required:
o Comfortability to units A & B as needed.
o Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care, strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to work collaboratively, solid written and oral communication skills, ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels, and experience reading telemetry strips
o Chest tubes, traches, PIV starts, drain & tubes, PCA pumps
o Gtt management Amiodarone (occasionally), Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, Heparin
Support within the Department:
o CNA: Duties Provides basic nursing care to assigned patients and assist RN where needed
o Receptionist/HUC
o Charge nurse may or may not be in staffing
o Phlebotomy
o IV/VAT Team? No
o Rapid Response Team
o RT 24/7
o Hospitalist 24/7
o Intensivist 24/7
o Telemetry monitoring/tech? Centralized Telemetry
o Security on Unit 24/7 (B)
