Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical/Telemetry | Travel Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) for a travel assignment. The ideal candidate will have strong Med/Surg and Telemetry experience and be comfortable caring for a diverse adult patient population in a fast-paced acute care setting.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg-Telemetry RN experience
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Current certifications:
    • BLS
    • ACLS
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Patient Population

Experience caring for patients with:

  • Total Joint Replacements
  • Colon Resections
  • Gallbladder Surgery
  • Appendectomies
  • Amputations
  • Medical Overflow Patients
  • Hip Fractures
  • Small Bowel Obstruction (SBO)
  • Nasogastric (NG) Tubes

Clinical Skills Required

Candidates should be proficient in:

  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Telemetry monitoring
  • Management of non-titratable cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone)
  • Wound care
  • Drain and tube management
  • Peripheral IV insertion
  • Central line care and maintenance
  • General Medical-Surgical nursing skills

Patient Ratios

Typical staffing ratios include:

  • RN: 1:5–6 on nights (may increase to 1:7–8 during surge staffing)
  • LPN: 1:5–6 on nights (may increase to 1:7–8 during surge staffing)
  • CNA: Approximately 1:10–16, depending on staffing

  • Health Unit Coordinators/Unit Secretaries
  • Phlebotomy Services
  • IV/Vascular Access Team
  • Respiratory Therapy

  • Alaris IV Pumps
  • Omnicell Medication Dispensing System
  • Philips Patient Monitoring

Floating

  • Floating may be required within the health system based on patient care needs.
  • Travelers are expected to float within their scope of practice.
  • Travel time between facilities during a scheduled shift is compensated.

Orientation

  • Facility orientation
  • Department-specific orientation

Schedule

  • Shift: 12-hour Nights
  • Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Every other weekend rotation
  • Possible low-census call
  • Holiday rotation required (approximately 75% of holidays)
  • Schedule published in 6-week rotations
