Summary

  • JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
    • Transition position provides guided orientation to help integrate and apply medical knowledge and sharpen technical skills for newly graduated Registered Nurses. Accountable for utilizing the nursing process to provide safe, age-appropriate, direct and indirect patient care, while practicing within the scope of practice of the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
  • DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    • The Mental Health teams at Samaritan Health Services provide a full range of professional mental health services through a team of highly skilled psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners and licensed clinical social workers.
  • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
    • Current unencumbered Oregon RN license required.
    • Healthcare Provider Level BLS required upon hire.
    • GSR Mental Health:
      • Graduate of an accredited nursing school program required (must be within the previous 12 months of the SHS New Graduate RN Program start date).
  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
    • Computer Literacy - Knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware and software, including applications and programming. Ability to operate applications, write software, set up functions, enter data, and manipulate and process information.
    • Critical thinking - Ability to analyze, organize, prioritize and make effective critical decisions.
    • Problem Solving - Ability to identify complex problems, review related information, employ creativity and alternative thinking to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Possess skills to make appropriate, independent decisions or seek help appropriately. Ability to initiate proper action and accept responsibility for such actions. Demonstrates professional accountability.
    • Patient Care - Possess the skills and knowledge needed to assist and care for others. Ability to recognize symptoms, drug properties and interactions, treatments, and preventive health-care measures within scope of practice. Ability to assess, evaluate and reassess, using the nursing process; the ongoing needs of the patient, patient's family and organize resources to meet those needs. Knowledge of role for Code 99.
