Position Statement

The PCU staff nurse is responsible for the care of adult and geriatric patients including management of multiple medical diagnoses and performing post-surgical care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs nursing skills within scope of practice for their RN or LPN licensure including patient assessments, communication and documentation of patient findings, and participation in multi-disciplinary team to fulfill the patient’s plan of care.
  • Inserts and maintain peripheral IVs. Manages care of PICC lines, Implantable ports, and central lines.
  • Performs wound assessments and treatments.
  • Provides compassionate end of life care.
  • Interprets and responds to telemetry monitoring.
  • Provides education to patients and their families regarding their diagnosis, treatment, medications, and safe discharge planning.
  • Attends and participates in unit education and in-services.
  • Strives to improve the quality of patient care through personal development and unit projects.
  • Collaborates with teammates to promote and preserve a positive work-place culture.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Current Vermont RN or LPN license required.
  • Completion of Telemetry class and exam required within one year of hire. Experienced nurses can ‘test out’ of class by passing exam. Classes are provided by employer.
  • ACLS certification required within one year of hire. New provider classes as well as recertification classes offered by employer.
  • Maintains current AVADE certification. Classes and certification offered by employer.
