Job Title: RN NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
Location: Providence, Rhode Island 02905
Work Setting: Onsite
Number of Positions: 3 Contractor Positions
Contract Duration: 3 months
Hours: 36 hours/week
Schedule: 3 × 12-hour shifts
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Work Days: Monday–Friday schedule window; 3 days per week
The RN NICU will provide specialized nursing care to premature and severely ill newborn infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The nurse will provide round-the-clock care, manage the basic and specialized needs of newborns, operate and adjust specialized medical equipment, develop and evaluate nursing care plans, and provide education and emotional support to parents and families.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized nursing care for premature and severely ill newborn infants.
  • Provide care for the basic needs of NICU patients, including feeding and changing diapers.
  • Use and adjust specialized neonatal medical equipment.
  • Formulate individualized nursing care plans.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of treatments and nursing interventions.
  • Monitor and support high-acuity newborn patients.
  • Comfort and support ill newborns and their parents/families.
  • Educate parents and family members regarding newborn care and appropriate care at home.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to support safe and effective neonatal care.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license, or compact RN license if applicable to Rhode Island.
  • BLS certification – AHA required.
  • NRP certification required.
  • EPIC experience required.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of recent NICU experience.
  • Recent NICU experience should be in a Level II/III setting, with the specific unit level to be confirmed.
  • Flu vaccination required.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required; no exemptions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • STABLE certification preferred; unit requirement should be confirmed.
  • Experience caring for high-acuity neonates.
  • Ventilator/vent experience with neonatal patients.
