    Description

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education – Incumbent must be a graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing.  BSN preferred.

    Experience – Prefer one year of supervisory experience.

    Licenses & Certification – Possess Current State of Oklahoma RN Nursing License.  BLS certification required.

    Knowledge & Skills –

    1. Professional knowledge of nursing care principles, quality management, ethics, infection prevention practices and processes required to assess nursing needs of patients and provide education to nursing staff.
    2. Knowledge of wide variety of medical disorders, normal course of diseases, potential complications and individual therapeutic interventions.
    3. Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects and complications of their use.
    4. Ability to recognize and react to emergency situations.
    5. Knowledge and skill in operation and monitoring of general nursing equipment; e.g. infusion pumps, defibrillators, arrhythmia monitors, etc.
    6. Ability to develop, implement and evaluate a patient care plan.
    7. Ability to supervise and evaluate nursing staff.
    8. Knowledge necessary to manage a fiscal budget.
    9. Computer literacy and ability to become proficient on electronic medical record.
    10. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in oral and written

    JOB SUMMARY

    Position serves as an integral part of clinical management providing nurse supervision and direction as well as administrative support for Muscogee (Creek) Nation clinics. Incumbent is under the supervision of the Chief Nurse Executive.

    WORK  ENVIRONMENT

    Work is performed in a clinical environment.  There is common exposure to contagious disease.  The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and emotionally disturbed patients, families and visitors.  Special attire may be required as protection against infection.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Long periods of standing and walking. Working with patients requires recurring bending, lifting, squatting, stretching and positioning of patients. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.  Must manage stress under many different circumstances. 

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:

    1.  Ability to develop a plan of care for individual patients by interviewing patient and family members, reviewing patient’s health record and determining the kind of health and physical care required.
    2. Observes and assesses patient’s clinical condition, recognizes, identifies and interprets serious situations and immediately decides proper action. E.g. inform the physician and take pre-planned measures.
    3. Adherence to established nursing policies and procedures. Ensures staff adherence to nursing policies and procedures and makes updates as necessary.
    4. Initiates appropriate measures in emergency situations when the physician is not immediately available. E.g. – resuscitative measures taken for cardiac or respiratory arrest.
    5.  Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician.
    6. Documentation of specific health care requirements for patients and plans, provides and documents teaching of patients and family members in preventive, curative and rehabilitative measures.
    7. Records observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures administered and status of coordinated activities between nursing and other professional disciplines.
    8. Evaluates the patient status, intervention, patient response and updates the plan of care.
    9. Proficient use and documentation in electronic medical record.
    10. Supervise and direct, evaluate and coordinate the performance of departmental staff.
    11. Assumes accountability for patient care administered by LPNs.
    12. Provides technical guidance and direction to all nursing staff.
    13. Participate in multidisciplinary team providing quality assessment and performance improvement.
    14. Ability to manage infection prevention program.

    15. Shares responsibility in ensuring that the unit has adequate supplies and equipment, and a safe environment and general upkeep is maintained.
    16. Maintains a professional demeanor and promotes professional, ethical and legal standards of nursing.
    17. Regular attendance and professional attire required.
    18. Performs other duties as assigned.
