Job Summary
The Barron Center is actively seeking on-call Registered Nurses with flexible availability. This role involves responsibility for the application of approved nursing techniques and practices in the care of bed or ambulatory patients. Work is performed under the direction of higher-ranking nurses who make any decisions with regard to special treatment or care. RNs will supervise Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants as necessary to ensure proper care of patients.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Receives patients upon admission, prepares them for bed, and furnishes general bedside care and attention. • Assists physicians in examining and treating patients in the hospital. • Prepares and applies dressing, administers medications as prescribed by the physician, and gives intravenous medications as ordered. • Makes periodic rounds of the floor or unit, observes symptoms, and takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure. • Assesses resident condition and changes in status. • Keeps clinical charts and reports on the condition of patients on an ongoing basis, showing medications used and treatment and medicine given to the patient. • Assists with patient personal care, helps change linens, and ensures patients have water and are properly cared for. • Makes frequent rounds to assure comfort and care of patients. • Directs practical nurses as necessary in proper routine and manual custodial or bedside care activities. • Responsible for smooth day-to-day operation of the facility on their shift, ensuring emergency and non-emergency medical equipment is in proper working order and that fire alarms are working.
Required Skills & Experience
• Completion of an accredited three-year diploma course for nurses, a two-year Associate degree, or a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, or any equivalent combination of experience and training. • Possession of a certificate as a Registered Nurse as issued by the Maine State Board of Nurses Examiners. • Working knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice, with the ability to apply nursing techniques as related to medical and surgical practices. • Up-to-date knowledge of medication administration, hospital dietetics, sanitation, and personal hygiene. • Ability to work as a team member. • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and directions in exact detail and to administer therapeutic prescriptions. • Ability to keep records and charts and to make reports and observations. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional and non-professional employees and with persons served. • Good physical condition and ability to maintain a sympathetic attitude toward physically ill patients. • Ability to exercise tact, initiative, and good judgment.
Special Requirements
• Up-to-date immunization records are required for all Barron Center staff. • An annual flu vaccine is required. • A pre-placement physical is required.

Salary
This is an on-call position with a starting hourly rate of $40.00. Additional stipends may be available based on night and weekend shifts worked.
Potential schedule
Available shifts may fall between 7am to 3:30pm, 3pm to 11:30pm, and 11pm to 7:30am.
Weekday 2nd shift differential of $2.00 per hour.
Weekday 3rd shift differential of $3.00 per hour.
Weekend day shift differential of $2.00 per hour.
Weekend 2nd shift differential of $3.00 per hour.
Weekend 3rd shift differential of $5.00 per hour.
