Job Overview:

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a highly dedicated Registered Nurse for our Operating Room at the Morris Cancer Center. The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive patient care throughout the perioperative process. They are responsible for ensuring the safety and comfort of patients during surgical procedures as well as preparing the operating room, handling surgical equipment, and collaborating with the surgical team. The OR RN will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and adhere to the highest standards and practice of patient safety, infection control, and professional ethics.

As an OR Nurse, a typical day might include:

• Scrubbing in and circulating in a variety of OR specialty areas such as Robotics, Surgical Oncology, Plastics, Transplant, Neurology, Thoracic, Trauma, Cardiac, Vascular, ENT/Head and Neck, GYN, Urology, and Bariatrics. • Participation in complex surgeries using the latest technology in our state-of-the-art surgical suites. • Serving as an integral member of the perioperative team and advocate for patients undergoing anesthesia and/or sedation. • Working cooperatively with the multidisciplinary care team to maintain professional nursing practice standards in the perioperative setting. • Participating in shared clinical decision-making.

Qualifications:

• Required: ASN or Nursing Diploma. • Have an active RN license and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. • Qualified individuals will also possess at minimum an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree and prior operating room experience or completion of a perioperative 101 course. • Preferred: BSN or must be completed within 5 years upon hire. • CNOR - Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification.

Certifications and Licenses Required:

• BLS and ACLS certification. • Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License.

Scheduling Requirements:

• Evening Shift, 40 hours per week, 3:00pm - 11:30pm. • Weekends, Holidays, and on-call as assigned.

Essential Functions:

• The Registered Nurse provides nursing care in the healthcare system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards. • Assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics. • Assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of own individual level of knowledge and experience. • Assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge of self and others of the patient care team by communication with and utilizing resource persons and programs available. • Reports identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e., damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors. • Is responsible for knowledge of the patient population served. • Supervises and directs the delegation of tasks to appropriate team members and collaborates with other patient care providers. • Consistently sets and evaluates priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement. • Is an individual practitioner and the interdisciplinary team manager, utilizing the nursing process to integrate all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patients needs.
