Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Pediatric ICU Registered Nurse (PICU RN) to join our critical care team. The RN will be responsible for coordinating comprehensive nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transition-of-care planning.
The RN practices within a professional nursing model and is accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. This role supports high-quality patient outcomes while maintaining professional nursing standards across the continuum of care.
The RN will also provide leadership through mentoring, preceptor responsibilities, participation in quality improvement initiatives, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

The unit also serves as a designated pediatric liver transplant, kidney transplant, and bone marrow transplant center. Nurses in this role care for highly complex patients with congenital conditions and multi-organ complications requiring advanced critical care interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients
- Monitor, assess, and respond to changes in patient condition
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and ongoing care
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation
- Support patient safety and quality improvement initiatives
- Delegate patient care appropriately based on patient acuity and staff competency
- Serve as a mentor, preceptor, or informal leader within the department
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care nursing experience
- Minimum 1 year of recent travel RN experience
- Minimum 2 years of PICU RN experience
- Experience in Level 1 Trauma care required
- Experience caring for intubated patients required
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid organ transplant experience strongly preferred
- CCRN certification preferred
- TCRN/TCTCN certification strongly preferred
Education Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Associate Degree, Diploma, or Bachelor’s Nursing Program recognized by ACEN or CCNE
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required according to state regulations
- Candidates graduating from non-accredited programs must have at least 1 year of RN experience within the last 5 years
- If graduation occurred more than 2 years ago, at least 1 year of recent RN experience in a related care setting is required
Certifications & Licenses

- PALS (AHA) Certification
- Additional specialty certifications may be required based on department needs
