Overview
Provides professional nursing care to patients within the medical practice in support of, and as directed by, the physicians. Assists the physician in the treatment of patients and completes related clinical paperwork. Make a Difference in Pediatric Specialty Care

Mercy is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Pediatric Urology team at Mercy Hospital St. Louis. In this role, you will partner with physicians and clinical staff to provide exceptional care to pediatric patients and their families in a specialty clinic setting. This position offers the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with patients while supporting a collaborative, mission-driven team dedicated to improving the health and well-being of children.

This opening is a backfill opportunity supporting continued growth and stability within the Pediatric Urology practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care to pediatric patients in a clinic setting.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, obtain and review medical histories, assess patient conditions, and document vital signs.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Assist providers with treatments, procedures, and specialty-specific patient care.
  • Administer medications and injections (IM, subcutaneous, and intradermal) as ordered.
  • Perform IV therapy and monitor patient responses to treatment.
  • Assist with laboratory and imaging procedures as needed.
  • Respond to patient phone calls, triage concerns, coordinate with providers, and return calls within established timeframes.
  • Document patient information accurately within the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Assist with referrals, prior authorizations, and managed care requirements.
  • Maintain exam rooms, equipment, supplies, and medication storage according to established standards.
  • Support urgent patient situations that may arise within the office setting.
  • Participate in patient education and follow-up communications regarding test results, appointments, and treatment plans.
  • Adhere to infection prevention protocols, universal precautions, and Mercy policies.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Required Licensure

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Missouri (or compact state eligibility).

Required Certifications

  • CPR Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Experience

  • Previous RN experience is welcome but not required.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong clinical assessment and patient care skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in urgent situations.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers.
  • Ability to interpret and apply clinical policies and guidelines.
  • Basic computer and electronic health record documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous pediatric, urology, ambulatory clinic, or specialty nursing experience.
  • Experience with patient triage and care coordination.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 185 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who wanted to help the poor women and children of Dublin. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill her dreams. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to poor women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help.
