Unit Medical ICU/PCU Float
# of beds 24
Ratios 1:1, 1:2 for ICU level acuity, 1:3-4 for PCU level acuity
Required Certifications BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required, CRRN, PCCN preferred not required.
Common diagnoses/Types of patients Sepsis, COPSD, Covid, pneumonia, CRRT, Arctic sun for post cardiac arrest patients. Overflow from cath lab. Post surgicals needing longer recovery. - Post interventional caths. Some overflow impella, Swans and IABP.
Experience or 'Must have' skills Minimum of 2 years experience in ICU. Specialty skills preferred such as management of Swans, Prismaflex CRRT, IABP, Arctic Sun.
Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes
Common titratable &/or set rate drips All ICU drips, sedation, vasoactive medications, paralytics etc.
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor Yes, charge and resource nurse on every shift. Does not take a patient load? Charge nurse free, resource may take a load.
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios CNA's 1: 8 ratio. May be pulled for 1:1 sitters. 1:10 at nights.
Hospitalist or Intensivist in house In house 24/7. Along with a dedicated pharmacist until 11, then house pharmacy after that.
RT in ICU 24/7 Deeicated to ICU 24/7.
RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc) All, CPAP, BiPAP, Vents.
Is there tele on this unit? Monitor Techs? RNs read strips? Yes. Offsite central monitoring. ICU nurses are required to watch the monitors and measure and interpret their own strips.
Shifts & Scheduling 07-19***. 6 weeks at a time. Self scheduling, balanced then reviewed by the manager. First schedule they would be filling holes.
Weekend Requirement May be working a lot of Sundays. Weekends are a high need right now.
Holiday Requirement Rotate with permanent staff.
Is there a call or standby requirement? No
Floating Requirements Could float between 4th, 5th or 6th floors or to the ED Holds for patient holds. Traveler may also float to MS/Tele floors (in order to not call off) in the event that they are needed.
Scrub Color/Dress Code Any professional color scrubs.
Unit/Department specific orientation Can test out of Epic if experienced within the last year. (EPIC experience preferred). 8 hour Epic class in Tacoma in a centralized education department along with an 8 hour onboarding and education day, tours etc and then 1 Shift with a preceptor.
