Overview:
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families. Has extensive knowledge and skills related to collection of pre-admission patient medical history, chart preparation and SCCR patient selection criteria.

Responsibilities:
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
- Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching.
- Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and SCCR health care team, including SCCR Medical Director.
- Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
- Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.
- Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
- Utilizes nursing skills to complete collection of health information. Identifying high risks and communicating to Medical Director and provider if indicated.
- Promptly collects all testing, consults, and H&Ps are available prior to procedure. Abnormal results are consulted with Medical Director and provider if indicated.
- Performs STAR Pre-Admission RN functions: answers phones promptly, relays messages accurately and timely and maintains positive interpersonal communication patterns.
- Maintains positive working environment, supporting open communication with and respect for all members of the healthcare team.
- Accurately accesses physician order sets, consents, consults and other pertinent information for chart preparation. Maintains accurate files and continually updates information in computer system.
Development & Patient Education
- Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance nursing practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
- Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
- Consults appropriate resources to provide specialized education.
- Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
- Acts as a role model to orientees, fostering supportive environment for learning. Assists with development of orientation tools. Communicates needs of in-service programs and ongoing education opportunities to Pre-Admission Manager.
- Demonstrates flexibility and self-direction in meeting patient and departmental needs. Participates in reduced workload staffing as needed. Participates in providing breaks/lunches to teammates as needed.
- Performs other duties as deemed necessary to meet the center’s mission and vision.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of accredited nursing program
- Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
- Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.
- Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English.

- Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
