The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily clinical responsibilities of Hematology/Oncology Clinic, Radiation Oncology Clinic, and/or Infusion Center operations. The Nursing Supervisor should be knowledgeable in all areas of the Cancer Services Department. This position will work on a multidisciplinary team and is accountable for the effective delivery of competent, compassionate, and efficient patient care. This person will play an active role in Cancer Center accreditation processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
20% Provides leadership and direction for the Cancer Center. Assists Nurse Manager in the daily operations of the Cancer Center, as evidenced by:
Functioning as a team leader. Prioritizes and organizes work for staff
Proactively coordinating patient flow and assignment of staff as needed
Promoting and practicing cost containment
Developing and maintaining collaborative relationship with all members of the healthcare delivery system
Assisting with patient concerns and escalating as appropriate
Ensuring appropriate communication between patients, staff, and physicians
Creating and sharing learning opportunities for staff. Assists with initial and ongoing staff orientation, development, and continuing education
Providing staffing coverage as necessary
Reviewing Time Off Requests and overseeing employee time and attendance
Coordinating with IT Team to train and prepare staff for Epic upgrades and workflow changes
Entering incident reports and notifying upper management when indicated
Ensuring that all Environmental Health & Safety and Laboratory logs are current and complete
Ability to make sound nursing judgment based on nursing theory
Ability to organize supplies, equipment, medications according to physician orders and patient needs
Ensuring that medical record documentation is legible, concise and accurate, timely
Serving as clinical resource and liaison. Advocates for patient needs and ensures appropriateness of treatment modalities
Performing technical and supportive patient care skills, including but not limited to: emergency response, respiratory care, and medication administration
Reviewing and updating departmental policies and procedures when indicated
15% Ensures effective delivery of competent patient care, as evidenced by:
Collaborating with clinical educators to develop and evaluate effective orientation, preceptor, and ongoing education programs for clinical staff
Ensuring that all new clinical staff have completed general orientation and departmental orientation requirements
Ensuring staff maintain current licenses, certifications (BLS and job-specific requirements), and Environmental Health and Safety requirements
Reviewing and validating annual clinical competencies for medical personnel
Preparing and/or coordinating department in-services
Managing, developing, and evaluating clinical personnel. Guides clinical performance by identifying strengths and weaknesses
Clarifies for staff their responsibilities related to job performance expectations, organizational policies and procedures, and scope of practice per the Nurse Practice Act/Board of Nurse Examiners and the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners
Ensuring that national specialty standards and regulatory agency standards drive clinical practice
10% Ensures effective delivery of compassionate care, as evidenced by:
Developing and sustaining a warm and caring environment by modeling positive verbal and non-verbal behaviors
Establishing behavioral expectations for all clinic site personnel that promotes positive guest and peer relations
Monitoring patient satisfaction through quality improvement practices and clinical questionnaires
Supporting patient teaching activities and ensuring that education is a key nursing priority so that patients and families feel fully supported.
10% Ensures effective delivery of safe and efficient care, as evidenced by:
Collaborating with other members of the management team to address any issues in patient education resources, staff education needs, resource availability, patient transition problems, financial data, multidisciplinary team functioning, and patient/family expectations
Evaluating infection control data and initiating controls within the environment to address any deficiencies
Collaborating with various ancillary services to ensure medical and office supplies, equipment, laundry, pharmaceuticals, and technology/computer related items are available at all times for smooth, efficient patient care delivery
10% Adheres to resource, cost containment, and budgetary guidelines, as evidenced by:
Establishing staffing patterns that reflect appropriate use of budgeted positions and ensuring that overtime is reserved for unexpected increases in patient load, acuity, or unpredictable staff fluctuations
Effectively utilizing data to predict daily staffing needs, assess productivity, predict changes in budgetary requirements, and monitor leave time
Determining needed changes in staffing levels to improve clinic site productivity
Providing input on annual operating budget
Remaining knowledgeable of human and fiscal resource management with an ongoing awareness of healthcare policies and economics
10% Ensures clinical site compliance with organizational, professional, regulatory, and government standards of care, as evidenced by:
Implementing changes within the clinic site to promote compliance with regulatory standards
Determining the intent of regulatory and government standards as they are related to clinic operations and initiating interventions designed to meet those standards within specified time frames
Maintaining knowledge of national regulatory standards as well as recommendations from the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)
Promoting professionalism in nursing through participation in professional organizations and utilization of the literature
15% Implements quality improvement and risk management programs, as evidenced by:
Ensuring that quality improvement programs are initiated, maintained and evaluated on an ongoing basis
Ensuring that environmental rounds are conducted at the clinic site on a routine basis and actions are taken based on the results in order to improve the patient care/work areas and to ensure patient safety standards are met
Determining the intent of accreditation standards as they are related to clinic operations and initiating interventions designed to meet those standards within specified time frames
Consulting with Risk Management in situations when clinic or employee liability may be an issue
Reviewing incident reports or unusual occurrences with Risk Management and developing, implementing and evaluating a plan to ensure quality improvement in problem areas
Collaborating with Purchasing Department and contracted supply management agencies to ensure the proper usage, cleaning, servicing, and repair of medical equipment in the clinic
Participating in clinic-wide and departmental quality improvement programs/committees
Actively participating in Nurse Practice Council (NPC) and/or other committees as part of shared governance
10% Assumes responsibility for remaining current on job-related knowledge and skills, as evidenced by participating in continuing education and maintaining all required licenses and certifications

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you"ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $72,800 - $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
