The STC is responsible for providing advanced clinical leadership and clinical outcomes with the ongoing management of critical care burn patients by facilitating operations, improving system processes, and use of evidence-based patient care. This is facilitated by I) the delivery of quality patient care; 2) the facilitation of efficient operations to support the delivery of patient care: 3) identification and recommendation of unit-based initiatives to promote patient safety and quality; and 4) ongoing management of regulatory and organizational compliance requirements. Responsible for performing all duties in compliance with the Bridgeport Hospital mission, values and customer service standards.

Responsibilities:

1. Synergy Leader: Collaborates with clinical nurses, assuring patient care across the continuum
1.1 Serves as a mentor to clinical staff, empowering their advocacy of patient care
1.2 Promotes the use of scientific principles and critical thinking skills in the delivery of nursing care
1.3 Works With the staff on developing time management, prioritization and critical thinking skills on the continuum, is a leader in, and facilitates staff engagement in innovation and evidenced based care
1.4 Develops strong positive relationships with all members of the team
1.5 Works in collaboration with nursing education to facilitate training of staff and certain projects
1.6 Supports burn-specific orientation, onboarding, and competency validation for nursing staff
1.7 Promotes burn nursing certification (CBRN) and facilitates burn-specific educational opportunities
1.8 Coordinates and/or participates in Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) education and training initiatives
2. Clinical Leadership
2.1 Shares accountability for safe, effective, high-quality care and optimal outcomes in the setting
2.2 Uses appropriate teaching/learning principles, strategies. and materials as well as current research and technologies to facilitate the learning of the patient and all members of the care team
2.3 Practices and mentors skilled communication
2.4 Practices and mentors' collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
2.5 Rounds daily with clinical nurses at the point of care for coordination Oof services, education, and quality improvement.
2.6 Collaborates with professional governance and supports the submission of best practice changes
2.7 Serves as a resource by providing expert clinical knowledge
3. Clinical Outcomes/Reduction and Elimination of Adverse Events
3.1 Collaboratively manages a data driven environment to measure unit specific outcomes for nurse sensitive indicators and any other initiative identified by the organization that require monitoring. Assist with decreasing/eliminating adverse events at unit-specific level: i.e. CLABSI, CAUTI, patient falls, pressure Injuries etc.
3.2 Participates in burn research, evidence-based practice projects, and data collection activities that advance burn care
3.3 Assists with implementation of new burn care practices, technologies, and clinical guidelines
3.4 Burn survivor and peer-support program involvement

3.5 Evaluates the current status and needs of a given patient population: i.e., reviewing/ appraising the latest evidence-based practice
3.6 Collaboratively establishes an evidence-based evolving plan for the improvement of care
3.7 In coordination with other unit leadership. ensures that patient care operations staff are meeting evidence-based practice standards and are institutional policies/strategies
3.8 Collaborates with physicians, rehabilitation services, nutrition, social work, psychiatry, and respiratory therapy, to support comprehensive burn care
3.9 Participates in burn multidisciplinary rounds and assists with coordination of care across the continuum, from admission through outpatient follow-up.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION: BSN required with master's preferred or would need to obtain within three (3) years. Current Connecticut RN Nursing licensure.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years minimum experience in the area of clinical specialization required.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Demonstrates excellence in RN and Charge Nurse roles: performs any and all RN and Charge Nurse responsibilities as necessary to facilitate patient care and operational efficiency.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Certified Burn Registered Nurse (CBRN) required or within one (l) year of position.
