Registered Nurse Cardiac Surgical Stepdown (RN) | Tulsa, OK
Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse I Cardiac Surgical Stepdown to provide exceptional nursing care for patients recovering from cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care using the nursing process in accordance with hospital policies, unit procedures, and professional nursing standards. This role requires strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to care for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions while collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for cardiac surgical stepdown patients.
Monitor patients recovering from cardiovascular and thoracic procedures, recognizing and responding promptly to changes in patient condition.
Perform comprehensive patient assessments while considering age-specific, cultural, psychosocial, and developmental needs.
Monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, hemodynamic status, and post-operative recovery.
Administer medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols.
Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes using appropriate medical terminology.
Develop and update individualized care plans while addressing patient goals and clinical priorities.
Educate patients and families regarding medications, cardiac recovery, lifestyle modifications, and discharge instructions.
Facilitate safe and timely patient discharges through education, referrals, and care coordination.
Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapy, rehabilitation, case management, and other interdisciplinary team members.
Complete required documentation, variance reports, and maintain compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing approved by a State Board of Nursing.
Minimum of two (2) years of Registered Nurse experience, preferably in cardiac, telemetry, progressive care (PCU), stepdown, ICU, or medical-surgical nursing.
Working knowledge of cardiovascular disease processes, post-operative cardiac care, clinical pathways, and the biopsychosocial model of patient care.
Experience interpreting cardiac rhythms and caring for telemetry patients.
Preferred Qualifications
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
