Registered Nurse Ambulatory Care

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides patient-centered nursing care in an ambulatory/clinic setting within the established scope of practice. The RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, coordinating and delivering care, administering medications and treatments, educating patients and families, maintaining accurate medical records, and collaborating with the healthcare team to support safe, high-quality patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and data collection, including physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, cognitive, nutritional, and pain-related needs.

• Identify patient and family education needs and provide appropriate education, guidance, and support.

• Develop and prioritize patient care based on clinical needs and available resources.

• Provide and coordinate patient care in accordance with established nursing standards and clinical protocols.

• Document patient information, nursing interventions, procedures, and responses accurately and in a timely manner while maintaining patient confidentiality.

• Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to patient rights, age-specific needs, cultural considerations, and ethical beliefs.

• Establish effective working relationships with patients, families, providers, and other members of the healthcare team.

• Delegate appropriate duties to healthcare team members and coordinate their activities as required.

• Evaluate the effectiveness and quality of care provided by members of the care team.

• Perform clinical procedures within the RN scope of practice, which may include:

  • Sterile wound dressing and wound packing

  • Urinary catheter insertion and removal

  • Suture and staple removal

  • Other routine ambulatory nursing procedures

• Prepare and administer medications in accordance with provider orders, standing orders, and applicable policies and procedures.

• Monitor medication and medical supply inventories and coordinate replenishment as needed.

• Maintain appropriate inventory and medication documentation.

• Support the safe handling, processing, sterilization, and maintenance of clinical instruments in accordance with infection-control requirements.

• Coordinate routine immunization workflows, including vaccine management, documentation, and emergency procedures.

• Respond effectively to clinical emergencies, follow established protocols, notify appropriate personnel, and accurately document events.

• Apply appropriate safety practices and infection-prevention principles in all aspects of patient care.

• Maintain accountability for professional nursing practice and operate within applicable laws, regulations, and standards.

• Participate in staff development, continuing education, quality improvement, and performance improvement activities.

• Participate in nursing research or other professional initiatives as requested.

• Demonstrate proficiency with electronic medical records, computers, and telecommunications systems used to document, track, and communicate patient information.

• Provide flexibility in staffing and assist other clinic areas or locations when needed.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or GED.

• Graduation from an accredited Registered Nursing program.

Preferred Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Experience

• At least 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse preferred.

Licensure & Certifications

• Current Registered Nurse license in the applicable state.

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers or an equivalent professional CPR/AED certification from a recognized provider.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and twisting.

• May occasionally be required to lift, push, pull, or assist with transferring patients.

• May be exposed to clinical environments involving illness, injuries, bodily fluids, and other potentially unpleasant conditions.

• Reliable transportation may be required when providing coverage at multiple clinic locations.

• Ability to work a full-time schedule of approximately 40 hours per week, including varying shifts, evenings, and/or weekends as required.

• Clinic operating hours may extend between approximately 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM.
