Transform our roads and bridges! Keep Kitsap moving!
Are you ready to transform your construction management expertise into projects that make a lasting impact? Join our team and take the lead on building the roads, bridges, and utilities that keep our community moving. From day one, you’ll manage multi-million-dollar projects, oversee inspection teams, and ensure every detail meets the highest standards of quality and compliance. This is your chance to combine technical skill with leadership in a role that directly improves quality of life for thousands of residents.
This position works within the Roads Construction Management group of Public Works to oversee heavy civil roads capital construction projects. You’ll perform highly technical office and field assignments in roadway infrastructure construction and inspection, working independently and collaboratively with project teams and stakeholders. Your work will be reviewed periodically through reports, conferences, and meetings, but you’ll have autonomy to make critical decisions that keep projects on track. The primary function of this position is to provide highly technical support for the Construction Manager and collaboration with the Construction Inspection Supervisor.
Why This Role Is Unique
This isn’t just another transportation or construction management role, it’s a clearly defined career pathway with built-in progression. We invest in your professional growth from day one.
Start as an Engineer 1, where you’ll build a strong foundation in roadway construction management, learning how plans and specifications translate into real-world field conditions. As you gain experience with roadways, intersections, culverts, grading, stormwater systems, and traffic control, you’ll also develop the skills needed to manage contractors and support project delivery. Once you earn your PE license, you’ll automatically advance to Assistant Construction Manager (Engineer 2) no reapplication required.
In this role, you’ll work in both office and field environments, gaining hands-on experience that bridges design theory with construction reality. You’ll contribute to projects that keep our roads safe, efficient, and resilient, while building leadership skills by providing guidance to inspection staff and coordinating with contractors, utility providers, regulatory agencies, and community members.
Already a licensed PE? You’ll start directly as an Assistant Construction Manager (Engineer 2) with full project management responsibilities from day one. No matter your entry point, you’ll be part of a team that directly improves mobility, safety, and quality of life for the public through the construction of roadway and transportation infrastructure.
