    Robot Programmer


    Location: Sterling Heights, MI

    Pay: $38–$42/hour + PTO and optional benefits

    Schedule: 50+ hours per week

    Contract: Long term open ended


    Travel: Local and out-of-state travel required


    Position Summary


    The Robot Programmer is responsible for programming, configuring, debugging, and supporting industrial robots during installation, commissioning, and production launch.

    This position works under the direction of the Robot Programmer Job Leader and collaborates closely with PLC programmers, electricians, pipefitters, and customers to ensure robotic systems meet safety, quality, functionality, and cycle-time requirements.


    Key Requirement: Extensive experience programming and troubleshooting FANUC CRX30iA robots is required.


    Essential Duties & Responsibilities


    Robot Programming & Commissioning

    • Review drawing packages for correct interfaces and verify that interfaces match application requirements.
    • Power up and calibrate robots.
    • Download and verify OLP (Offline Programming) programs.
    • Set up Binding Tables and I/O.
    • Configure robot DeviceNet (D-Net) and I/O communications.
    • Teach and modify robot path programs for:
    • Welding
    • Material handling
    • Maintenance
    • Tip dressing
    • Other robotic applications as required
    • Establish and verify signals between the robot and PLC interface.
    • Debug robot programs at slow speed and verify all signals sent to and received from the PLC.
    • Install and configure hard stops as required.
    • Configure software limits to correspond with physical hard stops.
    • Debug automatic repeat cycles in coordination with the PLC Programmer.

    Debugging & Production Support

    • Assist pipefitters and electricians in resolving robot dressing and equipment issues.
    • Run metal and verify weld spot locations.
    • Make programming adjustments to achieve required cycle times.
    • Work collaboratively with the PLC Debug Group to troubleshoot and resolve system issues.
    • Support FIS, Technical Reviews, 20-hour runs, and 2,500-cycle runs.
    • Assist with customer buy-off and production acceptance activities.
    • Participate in Technical Review (TR) studies as required.

    Documentation & Program Backup

    • Document all changes to robot programs and end-effector sequence changes.
    • Document all broken or replaced robot equipment.
    • Back up robot programs and parameters to the assigned USB memory device.
    • Provide all required program backups and documentation to the Robot Leader once the project has been installed and is operating in production.

    Safety, Quality & Professional Responsibilities

    • Identify and report safety and environmental concerns.
    • Comply with all applicable safety and environmental regulations.
    • Adhere to the Quality System and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Represent the company professionally
    • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
    • Submit accurate timesheets on time.

    Required Education & Experience

    • Technical degree preferred.
    • One to three years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Extensive experience programming and troubleshooting FANUC CRX30iA robots is required.
    • Experience with industrial robot programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
    • Experience with robot-to-PLC communication and I/O.
    • Experience with robotic welding and/or material-handling applications preferred.
    • Experience in an automotive manufacturing or robotic systems integration environment is a plus.

    Technical Skills

    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and drawing packages.
    • Ability to understand robot interfaces and applications.
    • Knowledge of robot programming, calibration, I/O, and communication systems.
    • Ability to troubleshoot robot and PLC communication issues.
    • Ability to modify robot paths and programs to meet application and cycle-time requirements.
    • Ability to identify and resolve robotic equipment and dressing issues.
    • Ability to document programming changes and equipment modifications.
    • Ability to back up and restore robot programs and parameters.

    Lifting Requirements

    • Regularly: Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
    • Frequently: Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
    • Occasionally: Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds


    Work Environment

    • May occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts.
    • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
    • Work may be performed around active industrial robotic and manufacturing equipment.
    • Noise levels are generally moderate.
    • Strict adherence to site safety procedures and environmental regulations is required.


    Additional Requirements

    • Must be willing to work 50+ hours per week.
    • Must be willing to travel locally and out of state.
    • Must have extensive FANUC CRX30iA programming and troubleshooting experience.
    • Must be willing to work in customer facilities and manufacturing/industrial environments.
    • Must maintain a professional demeanor and represent the company appropriately while working in the field.
