Robotic Algorithms and Controls Manager

A leading innovator in medical robotics is seeking an experienced Manager, Robotic Algorithms & Controls to lead the development and advancement of sophisticated robotic control systems used in minimally invasive medical procedures. This highly technical leadership opportunity combines hands-on engineering, algorithm development, and team management to improve robotic precision, performance, and safety. The ideal candidate is a strong technical problem-solver who enjoys mentoring engineers, solving complex robotics challenges, and collaborating across disciplines to deliver reliable, next-generation medical technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Robotics Engineering Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of robotics and controls engineers while establishing technical priorities, managing project deliverables, and fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and engineering excellence.

• Control Systems & Algorithm Development: Provide hands-on technical expertise in robotic motion control, feedback systems, force control, and safety-critical algorithms, including system modeling, simulation, testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.

• Cross-Functional Engineering Collaboration: Partner with mechanical, electrical, software, quality, and regulatory engineering teams to advance robotic system designs, resolve complex technical challenges, and support new product development and existing product enhancements.

• Product Quality & Technical Execution: Oversee engineering projects from requirements through validation and deployment, ensuring software reliability, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement of robotic system performance.

Qualifications

• Education & Experience: PhD in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline preferred; master's degree considered with substantial relevant experience. Minimum 6 years of hands-on engineering experience and 4+ years in technical leadership or people management.

• Robotics & Controls Expertise: Advanced understanding of control theory, servo systems, robotic motion planning, teleoperation, mechatronics, and real-time control algorithms, with demonstrated success developing and implementing solutions for complex robotic platforms.

• Programming & Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in C/C++ and real-time embedded systems, along with experience using MATLAB and Python for algorithm development, modeling, simulation, and system analysis.

• Leadership & Industry Knowledge: Proven ability to develop engineering talent, lead multidisciplinary technical initiatives, and communicate complex engineering concepts effectively; experience with medical devices, FDA design controls, ISO 13485, and regulated product development is highly desirable.

Location: Sunnyvale, CA - Onsite - M-F Relocation Assistance Available

Salary: $184-255K base (DOE) (poss flex). + 15% bonus
