TRC’s client is a leader in advanced industrial automation and manufacturing systems, specializing in high-performance robotics, controls, and integrated production solutions. This role sits at the intersection of engineering design, field commissioning, and technical leadership across full lifecycle automation projects.

Summary

The Lead Robotics & Controls Engineer will design, program, and commission advanced industrial automation systems, including robotic cells, PLC-based control systems, and SCADA platforms. This role provides technical leadership across project lifecycles—from concept and simulation through installation and startup—while also mentoring engineering staff and interfacing directly with customers and vendors. The position requires deep hands-on expertise in robotics, controls integration, and industrial automation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, program, and commission PLC and robotic control systems for industrial automation applications

  • Develop high-performance automation solutions focused on reliability, efficiency, and scalability

  • Program and configure industrial robots including FANUC, ABB, Epson, and/or KUKA systems

  • Build robotic workcells from concept through deployment, including robot selection, layout design, and offline programming

  • Lead onsite installation, integration, and commissioning at customer manufacturing facilities

  • Conduct system testing and validation to ensure compliance with design specifications and performance requirements

  • Design and implement Ignition SCADA systems for industrial monitoring and control

  • Integrate conveyance systems, pick-and-place robotics, material handling systems, and end-of-arm tooling

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and project team members

  • Collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders throughout project execution

  • Troubleshoot and resolve control system and robotic integration issues in both development and production environments

  • Support safety and risk analysis activities including PFMEAs and functional safety considerations

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent practical experience

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial robotics and controls engineering

  • Strong experience programming PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and/or Mitsubishi)

  • Hands-on experience with industrial robots (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Epson, or similar)

  • Proven ability to design and deploy robotic cells from concept through commissioning

  • Experience with material handling systems, conveyance, pick-and-place systems, and EOAT design

  • Proficiency in SCADA system design, specifically Ignition

  • Strong communication skills with ability to work directly with customers and cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated leadership ability in technical environments
