A day in the life

You start your morning reviewing a new automation cell concept for an injection molding line. You translate requirements into control and pneumatic schematics, estimate costs, shape the timeline, and prepare for early build events. By late morning, you’re simulating robot paths in RoboGuide, refining PLC logic, and validating HMI flows to ensure every station—from automated component feeding and assembly to laser marking and vision inspection—works as one.

After lunch, you’re on the floor debugging an intermittent sensor fault, coordinating with skilled trades and outside vendors to restore uptime. Later, you meet with customers and suppliers to align on launch milestones. You close the day designing trials for a new liquid dispensing process—both single- and two-component—specifying equipment and planning material evaluations. Occasional travel and flexibility to support off-shifts (including 3rd) keep launches moving smoothly.

What you’ll own

  • Design and delivery of new robotic automation and controls solutions for manufacturing, including injection mold press tending, automated feeding/assembly, laser marking, and vision inspection.
  • Selection and integration of new technologies, controls architectures, and automation approaches that strengthen our competitive edge.
  • Project leadership across scope, budget/cost targets, schedules, and early build events; maintaining proposals, timelines, and open issue logs.
  • Cross-functional communication with customers, suppliers, and internal teams throughout new program launches.
  • Troubleshooting and coordination of corrective actions for existing production equipment.
  • Electrical controls ownership: simulation, programming, debugging, and start-up support.
  • Process development leadership for single- and two-component liquid dispense applications, including equipment specification and material trials.

Core activities

  • Design and management of new automated equipment.
  • Development of project proposals, budgets, timelines, and open issue logs.
  • Creation/modification of control and pneumatic schematics.
  • Robot, PLC, and HMI programming; ensuring equipment meets performance specifications.
  • Collaboration with vendors; partnership with internal skilled trades and operators to resolve hardware/software issues.

What you bring

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3–5 years of relevant electrical controls and automation experience (preferred).
  • CAD proficiency and strong project management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills; effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Knowledge of robotic systems and programming (preferred).
  • Knowledge of pneumatic circuits (preferred).
  • Solid grounding in electrical systems, including: NEC Code, control circuits, motion control, and PLC programming.

Tools and platforms

  • 2D CAD: AutoCAD/Draftsight; 3D CAD: SolidWorks.
  • Robotics: Fanuc and Sepro programming; RoboGuide Simulation & Visual Components.
  • Controls: Allen‑Bradley PLC programming.
  • Vision: Vision Inspection System programming.
  • Productivity: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint; ERP: Oracle.
