Robotics Automation Engineer

Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Robotics & Automation Engineer to support industrial automation and robotic manufacturing equipment in an active production environment located in Avondale, PA. The role will focus on supporting, troubleshooting and improving robotic cells and automated equipment used in the manufacture of consumer products.
The strongest candidates will bring direct ABB robotics experience along with a practical manufacturing-engineering mindset. This person should be comfortable working directly on the plant floor, diagnosing equipment and process issues, modifying automation where needed, and partnering with manufacturing and engineering teams to improve uptime, reliability, quality and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Support, troubleshoot, program and improve industrial robotic cells and automated manufacturing equipment.
• Work hands-on with ABB robotic systems, including fault diagnosis, recovery, programming/modification and production support.
• Troubleshoot robot I/O, sensors, motors, drives, controls, communications, tooling and integrated production equipment.
• Support robot paths, positions, sequences, end-of-arm tooling and interactions between robots and surrounding machinery.
• Assist with installation, testing, commissioning and modification of automation equipment and robotic cells.
• Partner with manufacturing and engineering teams to improve equipment uptime, cycle time, repeatability, quality and reliability.
• Support PLC/HMI troubleshooting and system modifications as required.
• Support automation associated with machining, material handling and other manufacturing processes.
• Participate in root-cause analysis, corrective actions and continuous-improvement initiatives.
• Maintain and update relevant automation, controls and equipment documentation.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with industrial robotics, automation or automated manufacturing equipment.
• ABB robotics experience, ABB training and/or ABB certifications strongly desired.
• Manufacturing engineering, automation, mechatronics, electrical engineering technology or similar technical background.
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting ability.
• Understanding of industrial controls, sensors, motors, drives, I/O and automated equipment.
• Ability to work directly with production equipment in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Technical/trade-school training, associate degree, bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant hands-on experience.

Preferred Experience

• ABB RobotStudio and/or RAPID programming experience.
• ABB teach-pendant programming, robot recovery and troubleshooting.
• Robotic cell integration, machine tending, end-of-arm tooling or gripper experience.
• PLC/HMI programming or troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with VFDs, servo systems, industrial networks, sensors and machine-safety systems.
• Haas CNC equipment, machining or machine-shop experience.
• Injection-molding process/equipment knowledge, particularly automation used for part handling or downstream operations.
• Experience supporting conveyors, material handling and integrated manufacturing equipment.
• Experience improving manufacturing uptime, cycle time, quality or equipment reliability.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate enjoys being on the manufacturing floor and solving real equipment and process problems. They can look at a robotic cell as a complete manufacturing system rather than only a robot or PLC. They are comfortable troubleshooting across robotics, controls, electrical and mechanical systems and can work effectively with production, maintenance and engineering teams.
An early-career engineer with strong ABB/robotics fundamentals and the ability to grow may be considered, as may a more experienced engineer who can immediately contribute across robotics, automation and manufacturing equipment.
Work Environment

• Onsite manufacturing environment in Avondale, Pennsylvania.
• Hands-on work around industrial robotic cells, automated production equipment, machining and plastics-processing operations.
• Role requires regular interaction with manufacturing equipment and cross-functional plant teams.
