As a Robotics Field Engineer at Amazon RIVR, you will be the critical link between our advanced robotics technology and real-world deployment. You will serve as Tier 2 technical support, acting as the primary interface for other Amazon teams when complex issues arise in the field. This role is designed for a technical problem-solver who excels at Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and enjoys the challenge of debugging hardware and software in live environments. Beyond troubleshooting, you will play a strategic role in our development cycle by providing real-world operational insights to our QA teams, ensuring our test cases reflect the unpredictable nature of the field.

Key job responsibilities

Serve as the Tier 2 technical escalation point for field operations, interfacing directly with Amazon last-mile teams to resolve complex system issues.

Perform deep-dive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on field failures to identify whether issues stem from hardware, software, or environmental factors.

Execute debugging and perform quick technical fixes to maintain a target ratio of 1 engineer to 5 robots.

Collaborate with QA Engineers to provide real-world input for the design of full-system test cases, ensuring field edge cases are captured.

Lead the operational readiness and optimization of RIVR"s deployed robots, ensuring seamless integration across diverse sites.

Develop and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and Service & Support SOPs for Field Technicians.

Act as the technical bridge to Product and Engineering teams, translating field-identified issues and RCA insights into structured requirements for the product roadmap.

About the team

Amazon RIVR is a robotics company pioneering Physical AI through real-world doorstep delivery. Founded in 2024 as an ETH Zurich spin-off, RIVR developed wheeled-legged robots designed to operate in complex, unstructured environments such as stairs, gates, doors, and uneven urban terrain. We believe that achieving general physical intelligence requires solving real customer problems in the real world, where robots can learn from rich operational data at scale.

Following our acquisition by Amazon in March 2026, we are continuing this mission with greater reach and speed. By combining custom robot hardware, onboard autonomy, and cloud-based coordination, Amazon RIVR is building the next generation of safe, reliable autonomous robots for last-mile delivery

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
