Role Overview
This is a seasonal position you can use your winters off to travel, hunt, fish, or for other activities you enjoy while your benefits continue year-round. This position is responsible for safely operating a heavy rolling machine to compact earth subgrade or bituminous surface to grade specifications per contract. You will need to display a professional and courteous attitude with customers and team members.
The typical schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, with one to two Saturdays per month, 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform daily equipment walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly. • Safely and properly perform maintenance on equipment. • Safely and properly operate a roller. • Identify appropriate rolling pattern and drives the machine in successive overlapping passes over the surface to be compacted to prepare a quality surface. • Determine speed and direction of the machine based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures so that ridges are not formed by excessive pressure. • Assist laborer or roller operator with dumping trucks and keeping load counts. • Help clean curb and gutter areas. • Communicate effectively, verbally, listening, written, and work with people under high stress situations. • Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills, ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous and respectful of others. • Troubleshoot and problem solve situations, problems, material quality, equipment operation, repair, etc. • Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors. • Ensure OSHA, EPA, DNR safety and environmental regulations. • Assist in loading and unloading equipment for transport, including load counts. • Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum educational experience or other relevant job requirements. • Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card, and acceptable driving record. • 2 years of equipment operation and maintenance experience, preferably as a roller operator. • Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime and some Saturdays.
