Rolling Mill Operator

Position Summary

The Operator ensures accurate preparation, inspection, and handling of materials throughout the production process. The Operator obtains test samples, inspects surface and dimensions, and assists with maintenance activities.

Main Responsibilities / Essential Functions

• Identifying and procure testing samples based on continuously changing production and testing requirements.
• Operate remotely operated overhead crane (once trained.)
• Perform visual surface quality inspections and dimensional accuracy checks while walking on or below plate.
• Identify defects and clearly communicate to supervisor.
• Participate in maintenance activities during breakdowns and outages.
• Ensure readiness and efficiency of tool changes for wear components.
• Complete required training within designated timeframes and attend all required meetings.
• Understand and support the company's goals and values and adhere to company, department, safety, quality, environmental, and ethics policies and procedures.

• High School Diploma or equivalent (some college or trade school preferred)
• Good computer skills
• Good communication, collaboration, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
• Problem-solving and analytical skills

• Requires use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols at all times
• Must be able to work in tight spaces, at heights, and under varying environmental conditions.

• Use push buttons, switches, joysticks, computer keyboard and mouse, pen and paper
• Sitting 2 hours at a time; average 2 hours a day
• Standing 2 hours at a time; average 6 hours a day
• Walking 2 hours at a time; average 4 hours a day
• Alternate sitting, standing, and walking throughout the shift

The employee will be required to:

• Use a wide variety of equipment and hand tools

The employee will be required to sit, stand, and/or walk as follows:

• Sitting 2 hours at a time; average 2 hours a day

The position requires the following talking, vision and hearing capabilities:

• Talking and hearing person to person, on the phone, and in a group setting
• Vision at close, midrange, and distance
• Peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

The position requires the following pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying capabilities:

• Push, pull, lift, and/or carry items weighing 50 pounds or less approx. 150 ft.

The employee will occasionally be required to:

• Crawl

• Drive
• Balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb
• Reach above shoulder
• Reach at and below waist/desk level
• Twist at waist level
• Handle, grip, hold, and grasp with both hands together or separately
• Fingering with both hands together or separately
• Feel with both hands together or separately; sense temperatures and textures with both hands together or separately

• Indoors/Outdoors
• Extreme hot and cold conditions
• In wet and humid conditions
• Amid fumes, dust, dirt, smoke, grease, petroleum-based oils and cleaning agents
• In confined areas
• In high places
• Around equipment in motion
• Amid noise
• Amid mechanical, electrical, chemical, and industrial magnets hazards

Position Type, Expected Work Hours, Travel Requirements

• Position is full time, non-exempt, and is eligible for overtime
• Position works (12) hours a day, rotating shifts to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays
• Very limited travel
