Are you the hands-on problem solver we’re looking for?
Do you enjoy mechanical work, metal fabrication, and the satisfaction of bringing rail equipment back to spec? In this role, you’ll support freight car repairs while sharpening your welding capabilities under close guidance—eventually certifying in 1G (flat) and 2G (horizontal) railcar welds.
Your impact
- Contribute to general railcar repair and day-to-day shop upkeep
- Handle and stage materials to keep repair workflows moving
- Use shop machinery and mechanical hand tools safely and effectively
- Perform basic cutting/welding; complete supervised welds as skills build
- Learn the fundamentals of stick welding and apply them on the floor
- Tackle routine maintenance and grow your car-repair skill set OTJ
- Remove/replace uncoupling and brake levers
- Remove and dismantle couplers
- Jack railcars using approved procedures
- Assist with supervised truck (railcar truck assembly) repairs
- Remove and update AEI identification tags
- Pursue certification in railcar welding positions (1G flat, 2G horizontal)
What you bring
- Experience level: 3 years
- Preferred: 1 year each in Mechanic work, Hand tool use, MIG welding, and Brake repair
