Works in Facilities Services at the University of Florida (UF) Assist with cleaning roofs and gutters. Assist in installing, repairing, and preventatively maintaining various types of roofs including shingle, metal, BUR systems (Built-Up Roof), systems such as modified, and gravel surfaced roofs. Assist in the fabrication and installation of sheet metal parts as needed. Assists in repairing and preventively maintaining single-ply roofing systems such as TPO, PVC, EPDM, and Teflon fabrics. Assist with power washing of various facilities and structures. Assists in the recoating of existing roofs. Assists with pointing up and caulking parapet walls, and wall flashings. Supports other trades and contractors. May participate in the Facilities Services FaST Path Program. He/she begins the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) CORE curriculum. May participate in the NCCER Roofer Level 1 curriculum.

Job Description:

Supports other trades in new construction, maintenance and repairs of facilities structures and equipment including maintenance repairs to roofs, parapets and related work. Assist in installs, repairs, and preventatively maintains various types of roofs including shingle, metal, BUR (Built-Up roof), systems such as modified and gravel surfaced roofs. Assists with installing, repairing and preventively maintaining single-ply roofing systems such as TPO, PVC, EPDM, and Teflon fabrics.

Assist in installation, repair, and preventatively maintaining roof drain buckets, clamping rings and flashings. Assist in pointing up and caulking parapet walls.

Assists in the fabrication and installation of various sheet metal accessories such as gutters, downspouts, and wall flashings. Assists in the cleaning of roofs and gutter systems as well as power washing various facilities and structures. Assists in the resurfacing of existing roof with coating, fabric, and other materials.

Assists with work in several trade areas

Adds data entry via the AiM system (WR’s and Time).

Cleans and maintains shop and personal equipment.

State of Florida Class E operator license (required)

THIS POSITION REQUIRES A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES A POST OFFER HEALTH ASSESSMENT. 

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Total 40 hours per week.

- Position considered as Essential Personnel as defined by UF Policy.

- Emergency work as needed, Swing/On-Call/Standby as required.

Expected Salary:

$17.00 Hourly

Minimum Requirements:High school diploma (or equivalent)
Preferred Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

-Beginner knowledge of safe work practices in maintenance and repair work

SKILL IN:

-Using hand tools, power tools and equipment

ABILITY TO:

-Communicate effectively

-Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

-Ability to drive or walk to customer/trouble locations

-Ability to move or lift weights (such as ladders, tools, and equipment) weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance

-Ability to climb

-Ability to reach above shoulders frequently

-Ability to kneel -Ability to bend repeatedly

-Ability to pull and push repetitively

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

State of Florida Class E operator license (required)
