Position Summary
The Room Attendant makes sure every guest room meets brand standards for cleanliness and orderliness, and represents the hotel with a friendly, helpful attitude toward guests and teammates.
Essential Duties
- Clean and prepare assigned guest rooms to hotel standards, averaging a standard assignment of about 14 rooms per shift (check out and stay overs)
- Clean the bathtub, toilet, sink, walls, mirrors, tile, counters and floors using cloths, mops, sponges, brushes and cleaning agents
- Strip and make beds and change linens, which may involve lifting bedspreads weighing up to 40 pounds
- Dust all furniture, pictures, drawers, window ledges and shelves thoroughly, and vacuum carpets
- Replenish amenities, linens and supplies in the guest room
- Stock, maintain and transport the housekeeping cart daily, and dispose of trash and recyclables in designated areas
- Respond promptly and courteously to guest requests, such as an iron, directions or other information
- Report suspicious persons or activity, hazardous conditions and maintenance issues to Safety and Security or a supervisor, and give basic guidance to guests and employees in fire or other emergencies
- Turn in all items found in your work area to the hotel Lost and Found
- Update room status on the assignment sheet and keep assigned room keys secure
- Assist other Room Attendants or the Houseperson when requested, and perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- No formal education required
- At least 6 months of housekeeping experience preferred, hotel or residential
- Ability to follow instructions and directions, meet deadlines, and work with limited supervision
- Ability to scrub and scour surfaces, extend arms overhead and work in confined spaces
- English sufficient to understand safety labels, instructions and basic guest requests, and to communicate with guests and teammates
- Attention to detail, good time management and a team attitude
- Reliable attendance
Physical Demands
Must be able to stand and walk for an 8 hour shift, and to frequently bend, stoop, walk, and lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds. Must be able to push or pull equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.
Working Conditions
Because hotels operate every day, work schedules include holidays, weekends and alternate shifts, with occasional overtime.
