Description

Under direction of the Roots to Rocks Program Specialist, assists in the implementation of the Roots to Rocks Program for the Montgomery Parks Park Planning and Stewardship Division. Assist in the scheduling, management and leadership of the Roots to Rocks group mountain bike ride activities and
events for the public in Spring, Summer, and Fall. Assists in the facilitation of the Trail Ambassador high school program group bike rides and hikes during the Summer. Assists with equipment maintenance and safety measures for all bike ride activities. Helps advertise and recruit participant sign-ups for group bike rides. Distribute, collect, and ensure participants have completed paperwork in accordance with Commission policies and safety standards. Exhibits exemplary interpersonal skills with staff, parents, and participants. Always ensures the safety of participants, troubleshoot and addresses issues. Accomplish other duties and activities as assigned.
Examples of Important Duties

Program Management
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate numerous bike ride activities.
  • Ensure program logistics, equipment, and safety measures are in place for all activities.
  • Advertise and recruit participant sign-ups.
  • Communicate across numerous staff and participants.
  • Ensure that all participants have completed paperwork and adheres to Commission policies.
  • Inventory program equipment, supplies, and bikes and ensure maintenance and repairs are
    addressed.
Instruction
  • Lead participants on how to ride a mountain bike.
  • Lead group rides
Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience lead and running mountain bike rides.
  • Strong Mountain Biking skills
Minimum Qualifications
  • Be at least 16 years of age.
  • Have experience organizing and leading outdoor recreational activities.
  • Ability to work weekends and afternoons.
  • Excellent knowledge of Montgomery Parks Trails System
  • Have excellent communication and customer service skills and be comfortable working with youth
    ages 8 - 18.
  • Possess a valid driver license.
  • Must attend and complete M-NCPPC trainings (Driver Training)
  • Must be able to bend, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to walk on rough terrain and work in the summer heat.

Working Conditions
Work is active and performed mostly outside in all weather conditions. Work is performed primarily nights and weekends.

The following information is a summary of benefits extended to all Seasonal employees of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). This is for informational purposes only and is subject to change.

Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees
Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.

If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.

Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
