If you are an Engineering professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in ourSidney, OH location, youwill be responsible for bearings development, design, analysis, and will heavily assist in the troubleshooting of centrifugal compressors for a lineup of new commercial compressors. You will be expected to execute fast-paced, time sensitive projects while building the organization#39;s subject matter expertise in bearings. You will participate in product development focused on mechanical performance improvements, manufacturing and assembly cost reductions, and rotordynamic enhancements, with emphasis on developing the most reliable and efficient compressor solution for HVACR applications.

AS A BEARING ENGINEER, YOU WILL:

  • Develop cost effective and robust bearing technology for high speed centrifugal compressors

  • Create bearing analysis program as a design tool to drive and speed up the bearing design iterations

  • Improve the bearing analysis program by comparing to the bearing coefficients measured in refrigerants

  • Predict bearing power loss, bearing load capacity, and bearing cooling flow

  • Provide speed dependent bearing coefficients to rotordynamic analysis

  • Develop and improve bearing manufacturing/fabrication methods to reduce cost

  • Develop the bounding conditions for use in reliability tests

  • Establish bearings design rules and criteria for new products

  • Support centrifugal compressor and component mechanical testing including the processing and interpretation of analytical data/results

  • Coordinate with suppliers, partners, lab, compressor engineers and manufacturing to deliver prototypes, samples and mass production product.

  • Check and review outsourced work scope with third party consultants

  • Support design of experiment and validation, develop analytical procedures for bearings and compressors and validate with empirical results

  • Utilize Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly methods for cost and cycle time reduction

  • Generate technical specifications to satisfy market requirements

  • Interact with other technical team members to drive robust, sound, technical decision

  • Work cross functionally with other groups such as engineering, labs, planning/project management, marketing, advanced manufacturing

  • Organize and document all analyses programs

  • Define project scope and review requirements for phase gate approval.

  • Manage scope, costs and schedule for technical projects

  • Clearly and precisely communicate, both written and verbally, at all levels of the organization and with clients

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • M.S. Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Minimum 2 years of previous turbomachinery industry experience, centrifugal compressor experience preferred.

  • Experience in bearing design and analysis for rotating machinery, such as turbo-compressors

  • Experience in troubleshooting rotor stability issues related to bearings and seals

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States - Sponsorship will not be provided for this role.


PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Ph.D. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering

  • Solid understanding of destabilizing forces in turbo-compressors, rotordynamics and vibration

  • Knowledge of industry standards for rotating machinery, e.g. API 617, ISO 10439-1.

  • Experience with rotordynamic data acquisition and processing systems, such as LabView, and ADRE

  • Familiar with high speed rotors, bearings, radial load and thrust load calculation

  • Experience with rotordynamic programs such as DyRoBeS or equivalent.

  • Proven success in cross functional collaboration with internal and external stakeholders

  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment, while also being able to work independently with minimum supervision.
