Job Purpose:
The Routing Specialist is responsible for planning, preparing, maintaining, and optimizing daily delivery routes to support safe, efficient, and timely product delivery. This position uses company routing, geographic information, and onboard technology systems to improve driver productivity, route efficiency, and operational performance while ensuring Hours of Service, safety requirements, company policies, and applicable regulations remain a top priority.
Nature and Scope:
This position works closely with General Sales Managers, Delivery Managers, Operations leadership, Sales personnel, and local management to coordinate daily routing activities and identify opportunities for route optimization. The Routing Specialist analyzes route performance and operational data, manages routing maintenance and change requests, verifies order transmissions, and provides feedback regarding safety, compliance, productivity, and driver performance. The role requires strong analytical and organizational skills, effective communication, sound judgment, and the ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced distribution environment.
Knowledge and Experience:
Required Qualifications
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree or two-year equivalent in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field preferred.
• Relevant beverage distribution, delivery, routing, logistics, or transportation experience may be considered in lieu of preferred education.
• Experience with route planning, Geographic Information System (GIS) based software, onboard computer systems, or transportation technology preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and effectively utilize company routing and reporting systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General Job Responsibilities:
• Plan and prepare daily delivery routes and truck assignments in the most efficient and effective manner while maintaining safety and Hours of Service as top priorities.
• Use company Geographic Information System (GIS) based software and routing technology to develop delivery routes within Beverage South policies and procedures.
• Utilize company programs and onboard computer systems to monitor route performance and identify opportunities to improve driver productivity and operational efficiency.
• Analyze route and driver performance data and provide actionable feedback to local management regarding safety concerns, compliance issues, and underperforming routes or drivers.
• Work with General Sales Managers and Delivery Managers to perform route optimization projects and implement routing improvements.
• Receive and process telephonic and electronic requests for routing changes, delivery adjustments, and routing assignments.
• Verify sales personnel transmissions and future orders to support accurate and complete route planning.
• Process internal accounts and orders received through outside order transmission methods, including accounts such as Publix, Sam’s Club, and Costco.
• Manage delivery routing maintenance for the assigned region and maintain accurate route-related information in company systems.
• Maintain open lines of communication with supervisory and management personnel regarding routing issues, service concerns, operational changes, and improvement opportunities.
• Ensure company safety rules, policies, and operating practices are followed in all routing decisions and activities.
• Adhere to all applicable laws, rulings, and regulations prescribed by regulatory agencies with jurisdiction.
• Represent Beverage South in a professional manner through personal appearance, actions, language, attitude, and interactions with employees and management.
• Maintain a clean and neat appearance and adhere to company and supplier dress requirements.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer and routing systems.
• Frequent use of keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment.
• Ability to occasionally lift, bend, turn, and perform other physical activities associated with the work environment.
