Work Environment
This role is field-based and centered on active construction sites for municipal water and wastewater infrastructure, including water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, water and wastewater distribution and collection systems, pump stations, lift stations, and underground utilities. You typically work standard construction hours, around 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with start and end times varying by season and contractor schedule. Overtime is common, and you should be comfortable working 50+ hours per week during peak construction periods. Overnight travel is frequent depending on project location. Inspectors are generally kept as close to home as possible, but you will travel to where the work is needed. Travel includes mileage reimbursement for trips to and from the site and on-site mileage, with guidance on whether daily commuting or lodging is most cost-effective based on distance and drive time. When overnight stays are required, hotels or apartments are provided and paid directly, and a per diem is available to cover meals according to established guidelines. You manage one project at a time, providing high ownership and autonomy as the on-site representative, and you collaborate directly with engineering and construction teams from design through construction. The team includes a statewide group of RPRs and construction inspectors supported by construction management leadership. The environment is professional, safety-focused, and offers stable, long-term work in a recession-resistant sector, along with expense reimbursements and allowances that support frequent travel and field-based responsibilities.
