Title: Production Support Engineer
Location: North Reading, MA 01864 (Onsite)
Duration: 6 months
Pay Range: $ 38-42/hr (DOE)

Description:

This position provides 2nd shift on-site engineering support for manufacturing test systems. The engineer is responsible for maintaining test station uptime, troubleshooting electromechanical test fixtures, supporting production teams with technical issues, and ensuring test infrastructure remains operational across all active product lines. This role operates independently during 2nd shift with minimal supervision and requires strong judgment on when to troubleshoot vs escalate.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and maintain test stations to ensure production uptime during 2nd shift
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues on test fixtures and associated PCs
  • Respond to production floor escalations and resolve test station failures in real time
  • Prioritize and manage multiple concurrent issues across stations in a fast-paced production environment
  • Perform preventive maintenance on test fixtures per established schedules
  • Make independent judgment calls on whether to troubleshoot or escalate issues when no manager is on-site
  • Document issues, resolutions, and status updates in ticketing systems (SIM)
  • Own shift handoff reports between 1st and 2nd shift, ensuring continuity of open issues
  • Coordinate with 1st shift engineers on follow-up actions and pending work
  • Support NPI fixture deployments and engineering change implementations as needed
  • Maintain test PC configurations including OS, network settings, and test software

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with electromechanical systems, test equipment, or manufacturing support
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and connectivity issues
  • Experience working in a production/manufacturing environment with uptime pressure (not just lab or bench settings)
  • Ability to prioritize multiple concurrent issues in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Windows OS configuration and troubleshooting in an industrial/manufacturing environment
  • Experience with basic networking (Ethernet, TCP/IP, WiFi configuration)
  • Familiarity with oscilloscopes, multimeters, and basic electronic test equipment
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Experience with Python scripting
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently during 2nd shift with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills for shift handoffs and ticket documentation
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment with high-volume output
  • Experience with test fixture bring-up or commissioning (not just maintenance)
  • Familiarity with test automation software (NI TestStand, LabVIEW, or similar)
  • Knowledge of serial communication protocols (USB, RS232, I2C, SPI)
  • Soldering skills (SMD or through-hole) for board-level repairs
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools (Excel, basic data parsing) for yield/failure trend analysis
  • Experience with PLC or industrial control systems
  • Background in robotics, automotive, or electronics manufacturing
