RTIC Operator (Real Time Information Center)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Annual Salary: $40,431.22

Per Mississippi State Statute 21-31-63: Any applicant for a position of any kind under civil service must be a citizen of the United States and an elector of the county in which he resides and must meet only such bona fide occupational residency requirements as may be determined by the civil service commission or the governing authority of the municipality.

Position Overview:

The RTIC Operator provides operational and technical support within the RTIC under the direction of the RTIC Crime Analyst, in the Police Department. This is a non-sworn position. This position monitors live video systems, conducts database queries, and gathers and relays real-time information to support active incidents. The RTIC Operator assists patrol, investigations, command staff, and the Drone as First Responder (DFR) program by ensuring timely access to video and data systems, focusing on operational execution and information relay while analytical interpretation remains the responsibility of the RTIC Crime Analyst. This position is classified as a Essential personnel classification for Emergency Response. This means that during an emergency response this position is required to report directly after an emergency. Essential status is defined as employees whose duties are vital to maintain basic municipal functions during an emergency.


Essential Job Functions:

Essential job duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following:

• Monitors life and recorded video feeds to support law enforcement operations.

• Gathers, researches and relays real-time information to field personnel during active incidents.

• Utilizes law enforcement databases and technology systems including, Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), video platforms, mapping tools and other law enforcement technologies, as permitted to support operations and investigations.

• Supports critical incidents by maintaining situational awareness and communicating updates to appropriate personnel.

• Assists with Drone as First Responder (DFR) program operations as assigned.

• Documents activities, maintains logs, and manages digital evidence in compliance with departmental polices and legal standards.

• Provides technical and administrative support to the RTIC Crime Analyst.

• Participates in required training and performs all related duties as assigned.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Must possess the required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

• Knowledge of RTIC operations and public safety technology systems.

• Familiarity with law enforcement data bases, video platforms and digital evidence.

• Ability and skills to understand privacy, confidentiality and criminal justice information systems (CJIS) compliance requirements.

• Ability to monitor multiple information sources and relay time-sensitive information accurately.

• Skilled in operating comuter systems, mapping tolls and data platforms.

• Ability to remain professional and composed during critical incidents.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate documentation.


Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED Required. Must show proven skills/experience in operating computer systems, data bases or technology platforms.

Experience in law enforcement, dispatch, military operations, security monitoring, RTIC operations or public safety support roles is preferred but not required.


Licenses of Certifications

Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver's License.

Ability to obtain and maintain CJIS certification. May be required to complete department-approved RTIC systems training. FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate is not required for this position, but may be obtained if operational needs dictate.


Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 25 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and office equipment including all equipment used for DFR operations. Primarily sedentary work involves extended computer use and monitoring multiple screens and data feeds. This position is subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, bending and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment with occasional work outside the RTIC to support training, briefings or drone operations. Exposure to stressful or sensitive situations due to real-time monitoring of law enforcement operations. Frequent interaction with sworn and civilian personnel. May require working evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, extended hours, or on-call status during critical incidents.
