Run/Walk Leader - Durham, NC

On-call, working on a seasonal basis

HealthFitness is seeking an energetic Run/Walk Club Leader to guide and motivate groups of walkers and runners through assigned trails in a safe and supportive environment. This is a part-time, on-call position requiring availability on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:15pm-6:30pm. The ideal candidate will have a passion for fitness, a commitment to health and safety, and the ability to lead a group through outdoor physical activity. 

Mondays and/or Wednesdays 5:15pm-6:45pm, seasonally in the spring and fall.

Responsible for leading fun, effective, and safe run/walk courses to members. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Design and schedule run/walk routes tailored to different fitness levels, ensuring variety, safety, and progress tracking for participants.

  • Lead weekly run/walk sessions, provide motivation, coaching, and tips to participants, and foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere.

  • Ensure the safety of all participants by monitoring routes, assessing conditions, communicating guidelines, and having a clear plan for emergencies.

  • Maintain regular communication with group members through emails, social media, or app platforms, sharing updates, progress reports, and encouragement.

  • Collect and analyze data on attendance, participant feedback, and group progress to report on program success and identify areas for improvement.

  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by leadership to support the overall goals of the department and organization.

Minimum Requirements

  • Adult CPR/AED and First Aid certifications from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, National Safety Council or American Safety & Health Institute required prior to start date.

  • Previous experience in leading or coaching fitness activities strongly preferred.

  • Ability to walk, jog and stand for extended periods of time. 

  • Ability to assist in emergencies or administer First Aid when necessary. 

  • Ability to navigate electronic onboarding and timecard systems required.

The compensation for this role is $28/hour. The final wage offer will be determined based on factors such as location, qualifications, experience, skill set, and other relevant factors.  We understand that compensation is an important factor when considering a new opportunity, and we strive to provide a competitive wage within the market.
