Russell Standard - Laborer 1

Summary --------

The General Laborer is vital in the overall operation of the Pavement Preservation Team. General Laborers perform the tasks necessary for the day-to-day operations and application of products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities ------------------------------------

• Controls flow of traffic by flagging
• Operates construction and/or power equipment for use in asphalt paving
• Loads, hauls, and unloads various equipment, materials, and supplies
• Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor
• Cleans equipment
• Follows all safety policies and practices
• All other duties as assigned

Drives company vehicle to and from job site, including interstate driving.

Skills and Education Required -----------------------------

• High School diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid Drivers License
• DOT Med Card (or ability to get one prior to start date)
• DOT Flagger Training Certificate (or ability to get one prior to start date)
• Aptitude for learning new tasks and skills
• Preferred: Asphalt material handling, Asphalt machinery experience

Job Requirements ----------------

• Ability to work in a team environment with other crew members as well as the ability to work independently without close supervision
• Must be available for overnight travel at job sites
• Must be able to work overtime and have a willingness to be flexible in scheduling
• Ability to work varied shifts and long hours during peak operation times (spring, summer, and fall)
• Ability to safely lift at least 50 pounds and recognize unsafe operating conditions
• Ability to perform work which requires frequent and regular movement of wrists, hands, and/or fingers
• Ability to perform work which requires frequent and regular walking and standing
• Ability to see, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity

Work Environment ----------------

• Work sites are outdoors and may require that work be done in adverse weather conditions.
• This position requires its responsibilities to be performed in potentially hazardous traffic conditions.
• Work conditions may involve exposure to hot materials, chemicals, fumes, dust, odors, gases, and other substances used in a construction environment.
