JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops, implements and evaluates health education programs targeted towards community, and/or select groups; assess community needs and priorities through analysis of program results, client records, journals and other community resources. Acts as a resource in health education to the community and community agencies, etc regarding health issues, including, but not limited to HIV/AIDS. Plans and presents education to targeted audiences to make community aware of preventative health programs. Plans, organizes, implements and provides health education classes. The topics include, but are not limited to depression, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, lead poisoning and prevention, STD's, stress, osteoporosis, tobacco and etc. Coordinate with other health agencies of community to ensure no duplication of services. Researches current health issues to enhance programs and educational materials. Prepares, distributes, and/or provides mass mailings of educational materials including newsletters, brochures and flyers for health breaks, community programs, summer programs and for the community, various organizations and nursing home/assisted living individuals. Creates and/or updates brochures/pamphlets/bulletin boards based on community needs and intended audience. Prepares and writes newsletters/articles for publication and to promote educational awareness of community health. Gathers statistical information and creates related reports using Word and Excel. Assists in the organization of community health events (i.e. health fairs, wellness week activities, etc.). Collaborates with other health educators, community agencies, and coalitions when ordering materials and planning community events. Keeps abreast of current issues related to Health Education through professional publications and research. Attends in-service training and meetings as required by Neighborhood Medical Center; may serve on various committees as needed. Maintains confidential personal information that must be safeguarded to prevent damage to client's lives or reputations. Utilizes sound judgment and caution in communications with individuals inside and outside NMC. Assumes responsibility for professional development and job-related competency. Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or Equivalent, Bachelor's degree in Community Health Education or Master's Degree in Public Health. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Must also possess public speaking skills. Have at least 2 years of experience in community outreach and awareness. Excellent knowledge of the community and other community-based agencies. Must have excellent computer skills utilizing Word, PowerPoint and Excel and be proficient in internet research. Must have the ability to provide health education presentations to various groups and community organizations. Must be able to clear a Level 2 Background Check Must also possess group facilitation/group dynamic skills. Must have organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills. Must be able to work independently. Must have a valid Florida driver's license, proof of liability insurance, and access to reliable transportation. Ability to maintain confidentiality. WORKING CONDITIONS: Frequent travel is required to other sites and the surrounding areas. Worker subject to high risk audiences in high risk areas of the community on occasion. May be required to work evenings and on weekends. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to engage in climbing, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, fingering, grasping, writing, and other repetitive motions. Occasional exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move objects and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects. Vision ability must be sufficient to read and complete written and typed correspondence and to operate/drive motor vehicle.
