The S&T Product Development Chemist will be an integral part of the Architectural Coatings Research and Development team. This role involves formulating, preparing, and testing new and existing products, evaluating new raw materials, maintaining existing products, and collaborating with manufacturing to resolve issues.

As a Product Development Chemist, you will work hands-on in developing world-class coating technologies. The successful candidate is expected to learn quickly and gain expertise in architectural coatings product lines, including concepts, practices, and procedures. The primary responsibilities of the employee will involve formulating both new and existing products within the latex paint team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations, standards, and policies to help eliminate health hazards and prevent work stoppage and time loss due to accidents.
  • Drive projects against set milestones and deliver results. Coordinate related activities including formulation, processing, testing, and application.
  • Perform and document generally standardized, routine chemical and physical tests of finished goods and compare the results with established standards and customer requirements.
  • Work closely with product management, manufacturing, and procurement organizations to develop new products and maintain existing product lines through formulation and product optimization.
  • Support manufacturing to ensure quality products are delivered to customers. 

Qualifications  

  • B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent scientific degree required. 
  • A minimum of 0-3 years of experience working in a lab setting.  
  • Previous experience in architectural, waterborne coatings, or other coatings technology and/or coatings manufacturing is preferred. 
  • Familiarity with lab and production scale processing equipment, as well as process oriented and problem-solving skills is essential for success. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in particular) is required. Strong Excel skills and the ability make professional level presentations is desired. 
  • Knowledge of architectural coatings, and/or SAP is a plus. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
