The Safety Ambassador Lead provides on-site leadership for autonomous delivery operations, ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, incident readiness, and consistent execution of safety standards. This role serves as the primary field escalation resource and coach for Safety Ambassadors, coordinating daily activities in a dynamic outdoor environment and supporting a safety-sensitive, technology-driven operation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and support Safety Ambassadors in daily field operations, acting as a player-coach who actively participates in and oversees activities.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all operational and safety procedures, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate daily deployment plans, including staffing coverage, route execution, and alignment with operational priorities.
  • Verify fleet, vehicle, and equipment readiness before deployment, ensuring all systems and tools are functional and safe to operate.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for incidents, operational disruptions, and field-level issues, guiding appropriate response actions.
  • Conduct regular safety observations and reinforce best practices to maintain a strong safety culture in the field.
  • Support onboarding, training, and certification activities for Safety Ambassadors, including field coaching and skills development.
  • Track operational performance metrics, prepare reports, and use data to monitor efficiency, safety, and service quality.
  • Drive process improvements by identifying operational gaps and partnering closely with operations and technical teams to implement solutions.
  • Communicate field updates, risks, and resource needs clearly and promptly to management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in and support incident response drills and readiness activities aligned to Level 1, 2, and 3 standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure accurate data logging and documentation of field activities, incidents, and performance metrics using mobile devices and basic controllers.
  • Engage professionally with the public, responding to inquiries, supporting de-escalation when needed, and handling potential media interactions in line with program guidelines.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in field operations, logistics, transportation, robotics, or safety-related environments.
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience, ideally in operational or safety-sensitive settings.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to coach team members, resolve conflicts, and interact effectively with the public.
  • Comfort using mobile devices, basic controller operation, and following data logging procedures.
  • Ability to maintain at least 7+ hours of active outdoor field escort duties across varied terrain, demonstrating physical readiness.
  • Sound situational judgment and decision-making skills for incident response aligned to Level 1, 2, and 3 standard operating procedures.
  • Experience supporting safety-sensitive operations, such as military, consumer electronics, or technician roles.
  • Background suitable for comprehensive checks, including Background verification and driving record review where applicable.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in military environments or service backgrounds, including Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard.
  • Technical experience as a technician, particularly in electrical, mechanical, robotics, or avionics disciplines.
  • Project management and operations management skills, including planning, organizing, and executing complex field activities.
  • Experience supervising teams or acting in a player-coach capacity in operational environments.
  • Familiarity with autonomous systems, robotics platforms, or advanced consumer electronics in a field setting.
  • Strong conflict-resolution and de-escalation skills, especially in public interaction scenarios.
  • Ability to conduct role-play exercises and training simulations to support onboarding and skill development.
  • Interest in short-term project work with potential extensions, including a 3-4 month project that may be extended into 2027.

Work Environment

This role is based in the Austin, Texas area, with work conducted in and around Campo Del Sol Parkway in Buda, Texas, supporting autonomous delivery operations in an outdoor field environment. Safety Ambassador Leads work 10-hour shifts with a 1-hour lunch break, with front-end leads scheduled Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and back-end leads scheduled Friday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The work involves extended periods of active outdoor escort duties across varied terrain, regular interaction with vehicles, equipment, and robotics-related technologies, and continuous use of mobile devices and basic controllers for data logging and operational control. The environment is safety-sensitive, fast-paced, and highly collaborative, with close partnership between operations and technical teams. Team members follow practical, field-appropriate attire suitable for outdoor work and safety requirements. The project offers a defined 3-4 month engagement with completion bonuses, overtime availability, and the possibility of extension into 2027, providing a structured yet dynamic work setting with clear performance expectations and opportunities to contribute to innovative autonomous delivery operations.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
