Description

Princeton Day School is seeking a full-time experienced Safety & Security Officer, working throughout all areas of the school campus providing an authoritative presence while promoting safety and order. The Safety & Security Officer reports to the Director of Safety and Security. For this position, the ideal candidate is expected to:Security Officer:Patrol campus following an orderly route to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows and gates.Build positive, strong and friendly relationships with all School constituents, engendering trust and open communication.Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.Monitor and authorize entrance/departure of employees, visitors and other authorized persons to guard against theft and to maintain the security of the premisesPrepare reports of daily activities and irregularities, if necessary, including equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons or any unusual occurrences.Call police and/or fire department in case of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons, and assist authorities as appropriate.Circulate among visitors, patrons and employees to ensure a visible presence and to preserve order and protect property.Warn persons of policy infractions or violations and apprehend and/or evict violators from premises.Escort/transport individuals to specified locations to provide personal protection.Serve as an information resource by answering questions, providing direction.Responsible for fire alarm, sprinkler and door access systems; inspect /adjust security systems, equipment and machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering.Investigate malfunctions observed or reported, including problems of temperature, lighting, open windows and security.Monitor building systems (A/C, furnace or boiler).Complete minor quick-fixes and adjustments to meet employee/renter's needs and/or eliminate personal andproperty damage.Identify building maintenance needs not requiring prompt attention and submit work orders.Call Director of Facility Operations in accordance with established procedures for work that requires prompt attention and assist tradesperson with transportation, access to the area and other appropriate help.Detect Safety Hazards as per Fire Codes while also monitoring weaknesses in building securityInvestigate vandalism and detain suspects until police respond.Control vehicle traffic and parking on campus; Erect barricades.Inspect and maintain all AEDsIssue and collect all keys and maintain a clear record of all keys.Manage and execute the ID/access card process for all adult members of the community.Assist in lockouts, dead vehicle batteries, lost persons etc.Review CCTV recordings when prompted.Safety Officer:Responsible for outdoor signageResponsible for radios (walkie-talkies)Responsible for purchasing and installing flagsPerform life safety inspections and detect safety hazardsResponsible for developing/implementing safety training program throughout the school including but not limited to lock out/tag out, lead based paint, ladder safety, head/hand/eye/face protection, machine guards Responsible for purchasing and distributing safety equipmentResponsible for developing/implementing injury prevention program and OSHA complianceOther duties as requested/assigned.Emergency Closures- In the event school is closed because of an emergency (e.g. snow or other severe weather) on a school/weekday, the Security Guard/Safety Officer: Is expected to report for work at a time and duration determined by the DirectorIf the event occurs on a weekend or holiday, will be called in as neededWill be paid for the hours worked plus an additional 4 straight-time hoursIf you cannot travel to school because of storm conditions, you must report this fact by speaking directly with the Director to request an approved absence. Missed shift hours will be counted as vacationIn the event of a delayed opening, will be notified by the Director when to report to workIn the event of an early dismissal, will be notified by the Director when to leave workEmergency Closing routine should include (but not limited to) the following:Monitor security (access) and fire alarm systems – contact appropriate contractor(s) if necessarySit at Main Reception area to be visible presence to potential visitorsPerform regular security roundsCompetencies: Ability to act quickly, efficiently and calmly in stressful situationsDemonstrate an attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to respond and follow through on assignments/responsibilities in a timely mannerAbility to communicate effectivelyDemonstrate professionalism in all aspects of the jobAbility to work with othersMaintain confidentialityAbility to work outside in winter and summer environmentsDemonstrate computer competencyContribute to building a positive team spiritDemonstrate dependability by consistent attendance and punctualityAbility to work overtimePhysical Demands: The physical demands are those needed to successfully fulfill the job duties and responsibilities stated above.The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds on occasion.The employee must possess the ability to walk, run, climb stairs and complete patrol circuit in a timely and efficient manner.Required Certifications/ Licenses: Valid Driver's License CPR Certification Black Seal Boiler License NJ SORA LicenseCompensation Range: $23.00 to $28.00 per hour (this role is eligible for PDS' full benefits package)At Princeton Day School, offering a comprehensive and competitive benefits package is one way we recognize our employee's contribution to the success of the school and our role in helping our employees and their families be healthy, feel secure and maintain work/life balance.
