Together, every team member contributes to making American Woodmark a place where people can express who they are through what they do.Primary PurposeAssist in the administration of the plant environmental, health, and safety policies to help ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and to meet or exceed established goals.Essential FunctionsAssist in the training of plant safety practices, and document as directed, to help create a safe working environment.File Workers' Compensation claims as needed and maintain document files.Accompany employees on initial physicians visits and/or drug screens as needed. On occasion, attend follow-up visits as well.Work with Safety Manager on various projects and initiatives.Assist in conducting ongoing safety inspections and audits of facilities, operations, and equipment to ensure a safe working environment for all AWC employees.Assist in the maintenance of SDS Programs.Actively participate on assigned teams and/or projects.Role model CITE and Working in Teams principles.Perform other tasks as directed by Safety Manager.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.Education, Experience, And SkillsExperience in Occupational Safety & Health, Safety Engineering or related discipline preferred.0 to 2 years experience; manufacturing experience preferred.Good personal computer skills; Microsoft products experience preferred — Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and demonstrate understanding of PHI.Must have experience in working in a team environment, to meet/exceed goals.Strong planning/organization & time management skills.Demonstrated problem solving skills.CPR and First Aid certified preferred.Must be bilingual Spanish & English.Communications SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret common business and technical journals and financial reports. Ability to listen and communicate effectively with customers/clients in an effort to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers/clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and public. Ability to develop presentations to be delivered to production team, plant level team, or public groups.Mathematical SkillsAbility to apply basic mathematical concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication or division to basic manufacturing performance recording or financial performance recording. Ability to read and use a tape measure.Reasoning AbilityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.Working EnvironmentTypical indoor manufacturing environment. The noise level is usually moderate to high and hearing protection may be required on the production floor. Safety glasses are required on the production floor.
