The Opportunity

Hoogendoorn Construction is seeking a hands-on Safety & Compliance Manager to support safety, training, compliance, and field coordination across our active commercial construction projects.

This is not a desk-only safety position. The right person will spend significant time in the field, visiting active jobsites, working directly with superintendents and project managers, identifying safety concerns, supporting training, and helping leadership maintain the right manpower across multiple projects.

We are looking for someone who understands how commercial construction actually gets built and can earn credibility with experienced field teams while maintaining strong safety and compliance standards.

How You Will Make an Impact

• Visit active commercial construction sites throughout the week to assess working conditions, safety practices, equipment, and overall OSHA compliance.
• Identify and address hazards involving ladders, lifts, scaffolding, trenches, roofs, tools, equipment, fall protection, and other construction activities.
• Communicate safety observations, concerns, and recommended corrective actions clearly to superintendents, project managers, and company leadership.
• Lead or support toolbox talks, site-level safety meetings, and company-wide safety training.
• Assist with safety orientation and onboarding for new employees.
• Continue developing toward the ability to conduct additional OSHA-related training internally.
• Participate in weekly coordination meetings with superintendents and project managers.
• Monitor manpower and crew needs across approximately 8–10 active projects and help leadership determine where employees may need to be reassigned.
• Use regular jobsite exposure to identify staffing shortages, site weaknesses, or upcoming project needs before they become larger issues.
• Maintain clear, consistent safety documentation and follow-through.
• Support a culture where safety, accountability, respect, and practical field execution work together.

What We Are Looking For

• Meaningful experience in commercial construction, construction safety, field supervision, or a related position.
• Strong practical understanding of commercial construction means, methods, equipment, and jobsite conditions.
• Ability to recognize unsafe conditions and communicate corrective action professionally and effectively.
• Comfortable working with superintendents, project managers, skilled tradespeople, and field crews.
• Strong organization, communication, documentation, and follow-through.
• Ability to work independently and travel regularly between regional jobsites.
• Valid driver's license.
• Willingness to continue developing safety and OSHA training credentials as appropriate for the position.

Especially Valuable Experience

Candidates with hands-on construction experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience in areas such as the following is particularly valuable:

• Commercial construction supervision
• Steel erection
• Precast construction
• Concrete
• Carpentry
• Lifts and aerial equipment
• Scaffolding
• Excavation and trenching
• Project or crew leadership
• Construction safety and OSHA compliance
• Manpower or field resource coordination

A candidate does not need to come from a traditional "Safety Manager" career path if they bring strong commercial construction knowledge, leadership ability, safety awareness, and the desire to grow into the full position.
