Safety Compliance Specialist

Job Description:

Job Summary:

Works closely with the EHS Managers to conduct facility inspections and audit safety programs.  Systematically recognizes and records health, safety, and environmental hazards at all facilities.

Contributes to environmental reports and regulatory programs including SPCC, RCRA, and SWPPP. Maintains records of air emissions.  Ensures compliance with permit conditions through regular inspection and corrective action.

Develops and implements solutions to compliance gaps in accordance with OSHA, DEQ, EPA, DOT, NFPA local, state and federal regulations through collaboration with other departments and teams.

Coordinates and facilitates environmental, health, and safety training. Develops new training materials as needed.

Maintains environmental, health, and safety records as dictated by law and internal policies. Maintains and updates company policies and written programs related to environmental health and safety topics. 

Essential Responsibilities/Activities

• Supports EHS Managers by writing, revising, and maintaining policies and programs.
• Coordinates with each facility’s EHS team to evaluate and track programs.
• Prepares reports for submission to corporate or regulatory bodies.
• Develops resources for safety and environmental compliance audits.  
• Requires up to 25% overnight travel to out-of-state work sites to conduct audits, gather data, or otherwise support the EHS team.
• Inspects equipment, machinery, work areas and processes to observe and document possible unsafe conditions.
• Embodies the EHS Team Vision for engagement of a corporate safety culture, which strives to educate, inform and collaborate with all levels of the AAON, Inc. organization.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree in a related field and minimum 2 years of experience in environmental, health and safety required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
• Knowledge of Environmental Regulations and OSHA standards required.
• Experience managing Title V Air Permits strongly preferred
• Experience in a lean manufacturing environment a plus.
• Experience with continuous improvement a plus.

Essential Physical Functions:

This position requires sitting for long periods of time. This position requires bending, stooping or standing as necessary.  The ability to walk continuously through manufacturing and warehouse facilities for up to 3 miles is required.  Ability to climb up and down a ladder or use steps required.  Ability to wear PPE required.

Supports Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Managers by implementing, maintaining, and evaluating environmental, health, and safety programs across AAON facilities. Contributes to environmental reporting, training coordination, and recordkeeping while promoting a strong corporate safety culture through collaboration, communication, and continuous improvement.

Primary Duties

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Supports Environmental, Health, and Safety Managers by writing, revising, and maintaining policies, programs, and written procedures related to health, safety, and environmental compliance.
• Conducts facility inspections, audits, and observations to identify potential safety and environmental hazards; documents findings and tracks corrective actions.
• Supports environmental compliance activities, including contributing to reports, maintaining required records, and assisting with regulatory programs and permit conditions.
• Coordinates with facility Environmental, Health, and Safety teams to evaluate program effectiveness and track compliance activities.
• Prepares reports and supporting documentation for submission to internal stakeholders or regulatory agencies.
• Develops tools, resources, and documentation used for safety and environmental compliance audits.
• Coordinates and facilitates Environmental, Health, and Safety training and assists in the development of new training materials as needed.
• Promotes a strong safety culture through engagement, education, and collaboration with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Travels up to 25% overnight to support audits, data collection, training, and other Environmental, Health, and Safety activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health and Safety or a related field; 3+ years of experience in environmental, health, and safety compliance, auditing, or program administration, or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background. Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Working knowledge of environmental regulations and occupational safety standards.
• Ability to interpret technical documents and reference federal regulations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with standard office productivity software.
• Ability to develop clear policies, reports, and training materials.

Work Environment

• Work performed primarily on‑site at manufacturing and warehouse facilities.
• Regular exposure to industrial conditions, including noise, moving mechanical parts, elevated locations, and environmental conditions typical of manufacturing operations.
• Use of personal protective equipment as required.
• Compliance with all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
