JOB SUMMARY

The Safety Consultant role plays a key role in supporting patient safety across the organization including:

  • Hospital Acquired Condition (HAC) reduction initiatives
  • Safety event reporting, review, and mitigation of identified risks
  • Facilitation and/or leadership of Apparent Cause Analysis (ACA), precursor safety events, and serious safety events
  • Proactive safety and system learning
  • Ongoing partnership with all Site of Care (SOC) leadership and safety governance structures

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Projects - Lead, coordinate, and participate in special projects. Collaborates with others to implement and evaluate departmental or organization wide project plans.
  • Assessment - Monitor the effectiveness of institutional practices. Recommend strategies for improving processes and compliance. Produce reports related to safety activities/risks/progress. Achieves safety goals/ aims as outlined in the Medical Centers strategic plan Safety analysis and proactive assessment to identify risks/hazards.
  • Investigation - Incident investigations and follow-up to develop corrective and preventative practices and procedures. Provide education and training.
  • Data Analysis - Compile, organize, summarize, prepare and/or analyze data for projects and initiatives. May process and distribute ad hoc requests. May participate in data or database management. May develop, conduct, and audit trends and historic data. May provide data to assist with audits and/or maintain records.
  • Safety Programs - Develop, implement, manage and improve institutional patient safety programs. Serves as a resource and expert to provide guidance.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 5+ years of work experience in a related job discipline

Strongly Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical background
  • Experience in patient safety
